Bryan Danielson Replaced This Saturday Night!!

----Bryan Danielson has been replaced in the NWA Tournament by Adam Pearce [pictured] for “Saturday Night Main Event” show in Bayamon, PR this coming Saturday night. Bryan Danielson suffered a small orbital bone fracture in Saturday night's match with Takeshi Morishima and is suffering from retina problems, the latter of which is the bigger potential problem. Danielson seen a specialist yesterday and will be undergoing eye surgery for a detached retina earlier today, putting him out of action for four-to-six weeks. His eye rolled back in his head and he lost vision in his left eye after the match.

----Adam Pearce, who was eliminated in the tournament by Bryan Danielson [winner of the “Jack Brisco” bracket] in the Semi-Finals on August 18, 2007 in Vancouver, BC will replace him. Pearce made his way through the tournament winning the “Harley Race” Bracket beating Aaron Aguliera and Chad Parham to his match with Danielson. Pearce’s opponent will be Brent Albright, who won the Lou Thesz bracket, beating Osamu Nishimura, Fred Sampson and Claudio Castagnoli, who won the “Terry Funk” bracket of the tourney, to advance.

----The NWA World Title lost much of its luster the day the WCW withdrew from NWA recognition in September of 1993. Shane Douglas was the next recognized NWA Champion when he defeated Too Cold Scorpio in August, 1994, but the immediately threw down the belt and ECW was almost born on that night. From this point until early 2002, the title went to guys like Chris Candido, Dan Serven, “Colorado Kid” Mike Rapada. Shin’ya Hashimoto, Steve Corino and Ken Shamrock. I would not say that the above guys were not deserving of the belt, but most of the indy promotions in the US did not feel the NWA Title meant anything.

----TNA took control of the belt in 2002 up until May of this year, when TNA dropped their recognition of the belt. TNA helped give the title some viewership from the fans that watched their PPVs from their birth in Nashville to Christian Cage being their last champion on Spike TV.

----Can the NWA Title regain importance? Not sure, but I was excited when I seen that Bryan Danielson and Brent Albright were headed into the finals for the belt. This is not to take away from Danielson’s replacement, but Danielson is one of the Top 3 guys in the indy scene and may just be #1. So, who do you put the belt on?? It looked as if the NWA were going to making a great decision with Danielson winning the belt over another great wrestler Brent Albright. I look for Albright to beat Pearce Saturday night and that is not too shabby either. Albright will probably be just an interim champion until Danielson gets better. I do know that with Danielson as champ it makes me feel like the NWA Title means something again. I would travel to various places in the US to see Danielson defend the belt vs guys like Albright. The question is will the normal fan ever see it that way again??
