Memphis Wrestling TV Report 9.27.08

----Corey Maclin and Jerry Lawler open the show stating that Sgt. Slaughter and Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles will be on the show today. Lawler puts over Joe.

----Maclin puts over the fact that he was in Memphis Sport magazine. Then they air Sgt Slaughter, Todd Bargella and David Dean vs. Romeo Roselli, Ricky Landell and Brian Anthony. Heat on Slaughter. Crowd was into it – I was bored. Anthony submits to the cobra clutch.

----Joe vs Styles was up next. Joe won with a muscle buster. Not the level of a match that you would think. There was no typical psychology with heel heat and such. Actually Joe worked heel more or did he?? This is one of the major reason I am not a big fan of Styles – it is like he just does spot after spot for no reason. They look good and the crowd was popping [because they are educated to the spots], but just not my kind of match.

----“Wrestling Professor” segment. 10.17.87 is the date given to him. Bill Dundee and Jerry Lawler win AWA Tag Team Titles from Soldat Ustinov/Doug Somers. They first air a music video showing Dundee/Lawler winning the belts. Somers was such a good worker and Ustinov was green as grass, but not as bad as I remember him. Maybe cause he was working Lawler/Dundee?? It looked like double heat with Dundee finally getting the hot tag to Lawler when Somers missed a flying headbutt from the top rope. Lawler pulls down the strap and boom boom boom, they are the new tag champs after Dundee ended up in the ring pinning Somers. Crowd went crazy!!!

----Lawler/Dundee come out for an interview with tuxedos on. They looked real cheesy. The crowd was loud. Eddie Marlin is out with them. Dundee/Lawler both were both single champs and had to give up titles. Interview was very good. Lawler is such a great storyteller. Their first title defense would be against Hector Guerrero/Dr. D [who actually beat them for the belts].

NOTES

----It is always so weird hearing Lawler put over TNA talent…They plugged www.kinglawler.com...6 man tag with Slaughter and Styles vs Joe was from “New Electric City Slam” www.northeastwrestling.com ‘s DVD from 11.03.08…Didn’t Boris Zukhov go to the WWE during this time and that is why he was not defending the tag belts??...Who was Dr. D???...This was not a good show and was easily the worse since returning to TV. How can they keep putting on taped matches from the Northeast including TNA stars and classic stuff??...Show will be available online at www.rronews.com on Tuesday for your viewing privilege, so you can vote in our weekly Memphis Wrestling Poll.
