Reality Star Announces Dating Contest

(Fort Smith, AR) – Reality TV star, actor, and pro wrestling superstar Matt Riviera is giving away a very special evening for one lucky woman.

“Date Riviera” is a contest that will give women across the country a chance to enjoy a night out—at least—with the multi-talented, electrifying Riviera, who has kept female fans spellbound, whether in the wrestling ring, on television, or on the big screen.

“This is a highbrow, upper class thing,” Riviera says of the Internet-based contest. He adds, “Whoever is selected will be chosen for the right reasons, and you can bet the farm that Matt Riviera will treat the winner the way a woman ought to be treated!”

Riviera says that entrants must be 21 years of age or older and will be asked to submit photos, along with explaining, in their own words, why they want to date him, all via e-mail.

A website, www.dateriviera.com, has been set up to function as the contest’s Internet home. The deadline to enter is January 8, 2010, with the winner to be announced on January 11. The date itself will take place on January 15.

Riviera says the lucky girl will also receive VIP tickets for a female friend and herself to attend the Mid-South Wrestling event to be held in Fort Smith on January 16, 2010, when Riviera will be defending the Mid-South Tag Team Title with Jeff Jett as they take on wrestling legend "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel and "All That" Allan Steele.

Riviera, who appeared on VH1’s “Megan Wants a Millionaire” over the summer as an eligible bachelor, says he got the idea for the contest from his experience on that show.

“My reputation among the females pretty much speaks for itself,” Riviera says about his ability to enrapture women, regardless of the role he’s in at any given moment. “And being on the VH1 show made me think that I ought to give women the same chance with me that I had with Megan.”

Riviera was quick to add that the winner of his “Date Riviera” contest won’t necessarily be a one-time-only person in his life.

“I’m looking for love, just like anyone else,” he says. “If we (the winner and he) hit it off, then it could go further than just the one date.”

ABOUT MATT RIVIERA
At just 26-years-old, professional wrestler Matt Riviera has lived a lifetime in just a few short years.
Ironically, it wasn't until he exchanged wrestling holds with Megan Hauserman (VH1's "Rock of Love," CW's "Beauty and the Geek") that the world took notice of his unique ability.
With an estimated net value of more than $5.5 million, Matt was one of 17 cast members vying for the affection of Hauserman on the VH1 reality series "Megan Wants a Millionaire." It was during this series that Matt demonstrated his unique ability to play to his audience, inspiring and entertaining the VH1 crowd by playing to the very talents he has cultivated for more than five years in the ring.

Movie roles, including serving as a deputy in the horror film “Blood Forest“ (2009) soon followed.

Jazz at WSU!!

----I seen this posted over at www.wrestlingnewscenter and wanted to share it with everyone. It is a short piece, but very well done just getting Jazz over. They are putting over the fact that this was her first match back, since having her twins. Kayfabe!! Kayfabe!! LOL As everyone knows Jazz works with hubby Rodney Mack for DogCW in Jonesboro, AR. This would probably be considered her first big "high profile" match back though.

LethalWOW.com sent along the following: Former 2-Time WWE Women's Champion Jazz is back wrestling after taking time off due to having twin girls with her husband, former WWE superstar Rodney Mack. Jazz made her debut for WSU Wrestling on Saturday December 12, sharing the card with Awesome Kong, Roxxi, Angelina Love and more. Lethalwow.com caught up with Jazz after the show, where she talked about motherhood, getting back on the title hunt and more. Here is some video footage.

Doink Is NOT Dusty Wolfe!

----As reported on various sites including www.wrestlingnewscenter.com and others below, Matt Bourne, who worked as the original Doink, just got out of rehab. I just wanted everyone to know that goes to shows in this area - Dusty Wolfe is the man behind the mask and it is not him that just got out of rehab. I just didn't want any confusion from the fans that visit both sites. Speaking of Dusty, have you read his book that Brian Thompson and I put together with him?? [shameless plug] You may have just a few more days, but I do think Amazon.com could guarantee it before Christmas. CLICK HERE to buy the book!!

Yes...There Are A Few More Hours...

----I got a note today that stated "I thought 12 Midnight Wednesday meant...Midnight going into Thursday...so heres the 1st categories." LOL You are correct and what I stated earlier on the site is not true - nominees for the first 6 categories - CLICK HERE - are still being taken until Midnight tonight!! I sometimes get my days mixed up due to the fact I work nights!! Thanks for looking out for me. LOL

Mother of Memphis Legend Recovering After Fall

I am posting this one behalf of my friend Stan Lane and the Lane Family.

On Dec 7th Stan Lane went to his mothers home after calling her for several hours and not getting any answer. He found his mother on the floor after falling with a broken arm and a fractured pelvis. She has been in the hospital since then but is due to be released on Dec 22nd. She is eighty nine years old but extremely vibrant and had been quite active in her community and with her friends. She was front and center on Dec 5th 2008 in Greensboro to see her son team up with his longtime Midnight Express partner Beautiful Bobby Eaton face the Rock and Roll Express. That was one of the reasons Stan came out of retirement for those two matches in Dec 2008 so his mom could see him wrestle one more time and right in his home town.

She will have a long recovery so we wish Jean, Stan and his lovely wife Maria well through the holiday season and the days to come.

RRO AWARDS RACE 2009 Stage 2!!!

----RRO AWARDS RACE 2009 continues. The first 6 categories have been closed for nominations. I have listed the next 6 categories in this year’s race, which many consider the most important ones. If you are a member of the KAYFABE MESSSAGE BOARD, then you may click over and put all your nominations there. Or you may e-mail your picks, if you do not want to post them “in the open” on the board. Send your nominations in ASAP. PLEASE PICK 3 NOMINEES for each category!!! Send your e-mail to brian_tramel@yahoo.com with subject: RRO Nominees. Deadline for these 6 awards is Wednesday 12.23.09. You may also go over to the RRO AWARDS RACE blog by CLICKING HERE and get all the up to the date info on the awards!!! Below my picks and thoughts are the Columnists Consensus results from a poll I conducted via e-mail last week with them.

----Wrestler –This award has to do with drawing power, influence, visibility and just overall a good wrestler. You don’t have to be the best worker in the area, but it does help. Wrestler of the Year is considered one of most prestigious of our awards, because along with Tag Team of the Year, you get your photo on the front cover of the Yearbook. Who will be there on the cover of Yearbook 2009?? Three-time Wrestler of the Year Derrick King will be considered, but it might be a hard year for him to win. But, with winning 3 in a row, it is almost a given he will be nominated. My top two picks change almost every week now – Dustin Starr and Rodney Mack. Mack took a promotion from drawing in the 120s to almost double as the top babyface. I think it is a harder job to draw week after week. Mack is easily the #1 babyface draw in this area. Starr has not only pushed himself to be the best at what he does, but he has also helped put this area on the map. His blog, his work with various non-wrestling projects and his overall exposure will make it hard not to nominate him. Other guys deserving the nod might be Brian Christopher [he has had a ton of exposure – not good..], Jerry Lawler [who topped all the biggest shows in the first half of the year] and Kevin White [who also was on a lot of the top shows].

----Tag Team of the Year fits right in there with drawing power, influence, exposure and all that combined into one. My top pick is “Asylum” [Psycho/Pappy]. There is no other team that gets more exposure and dates than this team. They will easily do 120+ total dates this year. No other team will do that. “Midnight Gold” [Bobby Eaton/Greg Anthony] and “Picture Perfect” [Christian Jacobs/Chris O’Neal/Jon Michael] are my other two picks. “Gold” made an impact in this area and it has just been fun for a Midnight Express mark like me to watch them. “Perfect” was “the” team most of the year even with O’Neal’s injury, Jon Michael then stepped in. Others that should be considered - “LSD” [Cody Only/Idol Bane], “Genocide” [Maxx Corbin/Albino Rhino], “Natural Born Playas” [Southside Brawler/Pimptacular] and “East Coast Bad Boys” [Serpent/C-Money] .

----MVP Performer of 2009, which is the best overall worker. This award is not based on drawing power, just wrestling. Some of the names from last year have to be considered as Austin Lane, Stan Lee and Greg Anthony are always good workers. My first pick this year will have to be Austin Lane. I have just seen him in more great matches than anyone this year. #2 pick is Pokerface. I have seen him in two over [***] matches in a single and in a tag. He is always been considered one of the top in the area, but mostly as a tag team wrestler – winning MVP Tag Team 2007. He worked his ass off during the Sid/Hall angles and made everyone look good. #3 pick is Jon Michael. He was also the winner of a tag team award in 2006, but he is shining as a single wrestler and had excellent performances at two of the NBW big shows. Stan Lee, Greg Anthony, Christian Jacobs or Eric Wayne - it would not hurt my feelings to see either of them nominated.

----MVP Tag Team of Year 2009. This is a hard category also. What teams are flawless and work the hardest?? The three teams that come to mind the most for me are “East Coast Bad Boys”, Derrick King/Pokerface and “Picture Perfect”. If King/Poker teamed other places, I would have to pick them easily. ECBB are limited also, but I think my #1 pick would be a toss up between them and PP.

----Rookie of The Year –This award goes to someone that worked at least 26 dates in their first year of wrestling. The guys that are eligible are JD Kerry, Michael Gilbert, Chris Lexxus, The Regulator, Ty Hamiliton and there are others out there. I would have to pick JD Kerry hands down in this category. Guys like Kevin Charles and Dan Matthews fall “in between” and will get a nod next year.

----NEW AWARD: Spot Moondog Brawler of the Year Award. This will be our first year to present this award and it is our only new award added. This award has been given a stamp of approval by the family of Spot Moondog and we are excited about presenting it. This award goes to a guy that is hardcore or just a damn good brawler. My number one pick here would be Psycho. Psycho can take more punishment than anyone I have seen in this area. His matches for S&V and the IWA stuff put him ahead of others. He does these shows and continues to do regular bouts each and every week without taking off time. Tony Myers does his own stuff and is a strong candidate here. Motley Cruz is and has always been good at the brawling style. Pappy did most of the stuff Psycho did and should be consider. Southside Brawler also did a few really wild brawls this year and Ron Rage ended up bloody a lot too.

Columnist Consensus

-Wrestler: Dustin Starr, Greg Anthony, Rodney Mack

-Tag Team: Midnight Gold, Picture Perfect, The Asylum

-MVP Performer: Austin Lane, Stan Lee, Greg Anthony

-MVP Tag Team: Picture Perfect, Midnight Gold, Eric Wayne/Kid Nikels

-Rookie: JD Kerry, Blaine Devine, Chris Lexxus

-Moondog Award: Psycho, Pappy, Motley Cruz

12/14 Raw TV results from Corpus Christi, TX: Christian, Kane & Great Khali over William Regal, Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson; Kofi Kingston over Cody Rhodes via DQ; Legacy over Kingston & Evan Bourne; John Cena over CM Punk; Randy Orton over Undertaker via CO; Jerishow over DX via DQ so DX retain the tag titles; John Morrison, Yoshi Tatsu & Mark Henry over The Miz, Drew McIntyre & Zack Ryder, Babyface Divas over Heel Divas; and John Cena over Randy Orton to become Superstar of the Year.

Slammy results are on WWE.com for those who care.

The Smackdown/ECW crew are taping television today in Laredo. ECW tonight on SyFy includes a Kane appearance, and The Hurricane vs. The Ripper (Paul Burchill) for an ECW contract.

The Bret Hart reference last night during Raw is likely the start of a long term storyline that could lead to Bret vs. Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 26, but not necessarily in a wrestling match. Bret has stated in several recent interviews that he is open to the idea of appearing again on WWE television in a non-wrestling role. As far as doing the guest host deal we don't know he has agreed to anything in that regard, but a Bret Hart appearance on January 4, his first Raw appearance in 12 years, against Impact would surely be a blow to TNA's chances of making a dint in WWE ratings... We also know now that there is a Hart Foundation DVD in the works. Jim Neidhart was telling people about the project during an autograph signing this past weekend in Long Island.

The other major news out of Raw was Shawn Michaels challenging Undertaker to a rematch at Wrestlemania 26.

Raw did a 3.3 rating off hours 2.95, 3.48 and 3.44.

Irv Muchnick at http://tinyurl.com/ya89cdt reveals that the WWE did have access to medical research on Chris Benoit's brain despite their recent claims to the contrary. Dr. Bennet Omalu of the Brain Injury Research Institute at West Virginia University, who supervised the research on Benoit's brain, told Muchnick that Dr. Joseph Maroon, who launched the WWE concussion testing program in 2008, visited the Institute and had access to the facility's research on Benoit. The WWE gave a statement to ESPN just last week claiming that they have been denied access to the Benoit research despite numerous requests.

President Obama will deliver a special holiday message during WWE's Tribute to the Troops. The show airs this coming Saturday at 9pm ET on NBC. General David H. Petraeus, Commander, U.S. Central Command, will also deliver his holiday wishes.

Bill Apter has an interview with Gerald Brisco at http://tinyurl.com/ycxjhr6 which is Brisco's first recorded comments since suffering a series of mini-strokes earlier this year. He said his strength is returning but he is having some problems with his speech.

The Irish Voice has an article on Sheamus winning the WWE title at http://tinyurl.com/yaoj3yo.

Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees is hosting Raw next Monday from Tampa. Damon, who is a huge wrestling fan, also had a TNA cameo in 2007 when he became involved in storylines with Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

Little People's Court is coming next Monday. Jim Cornette talks about the origin of this skit at http://whosslammingwho.podomatic.com/ along with other Podcasts from Lanny Poffo, Bill Behrens, Jody Hamilton, and Kenny Bolin.

CableFax magazine has named Vince McMahon as one of it's Top 100 People in the cable industry. Vince was No. 40. They put over WWE ratings and that they grossed over $50 million for Wrestlemania 25.

We incorrectly noted yesterday that UFC had just moved it's 111 PPV in Newark to March 27, the night before Wrestlemania 26. The March 27 date was actually booked back in August. Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao tentatively scheduled for Match 13 is apparently just a coincidence, unless UFC knew something nobody else did.

There is a trailer up for the movie Wapakman which stars Manny Pacquiao and Batista at http://tinyurl.com/y888mel. Wapakman is scheduled to play at the Metro Manila Film Festival, which opens on December 25.

Dr. Mike Lano has a look at Rey Mysterio's book at http://tinyurl.com/yecw9a4.

For those who missed it, Batista interrupting Maria's Diva of the Year acceptance speech was supposed to be a parody of Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift at the MTV Music Awards earlier this year. A lot of gags went over people's head last night... Jim Ross at www.jrsbarbq.com addressed Michael Cole's comments from his acceptance speech, saying: "[Cole's] speech was written for him and his actions were designed and produced to make him look foolish."

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Ring of Honor will debut their first Internet streamed PPV this weekend at www.GoFightLive.tv. Final Battle 2009 on Saturday night is streamed live from the Manhattan Center in New York City. Complete lineup is Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black for the ROH title; The American Wolves vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe for the tag titles; Jack Evans & Rocky Romero vs. Teddy Hart & Alex Koslov; Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. The Young Bucks; Eddie Kingston vs. Chris Hero; Roderick Strong vs. Kenny King; Necro Butcher & Delirious vs. Bison Smith & Erick Stevens; and Kenny Omega vs. Rhett Titus vs. Colt Cabana vs. Claudio Castagnoli in a four-way. Limited tickets are still available at www.rohwrestling.com, www.tickets.com, or by calling (215) 781-2500. For just $14.95 in terms of pure wrestling this show will likely be the best action you will find anywhere.

Verizon FIOS just added HDNet to their lineup which includes Ring of Honor programming.

Former WWE wrestler Ken Doane (Kenny Dykstra), 23, is part of an upcoming reality show called Seducing Cindy. I knew this show was in the works a few months ago as a friend of a friend was part of the production crew. The premise is Cindy Margolis as "America’s sexiest cougar" looking for love with 25 guys from all walks of life competing for her affection. Margolis, 44, is a former Playboy cover model who gained fame in the late 90s for being the most downloaded woman on the Internet, and later she became an actress. The show premieres on the Fox Reality Channel on January 30. They taped eight one-hour episodes over the summer. In one of the episodes the producers fake a car wreck and worked the suitors that Margolis was on deaths door and needed one of them to donate a kidney. "Fox Reality Channel is pleased to present the network’s first original dating show, that will take viewers on the exciting, emotional and potentially intimidating journey of finding love over 40," said Noel Siegel, VP Development and Production for Fox Reality Channel. "Millions of men have downloaded Cindy Margolis photos, but only one can win her heart." Ken Doane is probably best remembered as part of the Spirit Squad that had a brief run in the WWE. He was also at one-time engaged to Mickie James.

Bobbi Billard, a glamour model who the WWE signed to developmental a few years ago, plays the role of Anna Nicole Smith for a TV show that will be airing next year on VH1. It's a CSI style program which looks at different celebrity deaths. Billard quit the WWE in 2004 after she was injured in training and didn't like the treatment she received from then-trainers Jackie Moore and Lisa "Ivory" Moretti.

Denise Riffle, who was Chastity, a valet in ECW and WCW, reportedly has a cameo in a new porn spoof called Tiger's Wood. The film is being produced by Adam & Eve Pictures, and stars Tyler Knight as Tiger Woods and Kayden Kross as his wife Elin Nordegren.

Switching gears, we just want to send our best wishes to Stan Lane and his mother, who is in her 90s, and recently fell and broke her hip.

Former Ontario area independent wrestler Damian "Truth" Evans passed away on Friday at age 29 from a heart attack. Greg Oliver has the story at http://tinyurl.com/ye85kld.

The Golden Circle "Home Keys" by Greg Anthony

Have you ever been sitting at the keyboard typing away and when you look up you've typed a bunch nonsensical gibberish? Not because your Maxx Corbin, but because your fingers weren't on the home keys. So instead of "hi, how are you" you've typed "jo jpe str upiz". It was just a slight mistake but the end result is so much different. Pro wrestling has its own home keys. Places you need to start before you start typing/telling your stories.

I try to pay attention close attention to booking philosophies. Lets face it pretty much every story that can be told in wrestling, has been. Teacher vs Student, Family vs Family, the underdog champion, the veterans last shot at a winner, the women coming between two friends. You hurt my wife, my girlfriend, my mother, my brother, my son, my dad, my dog! I'm the new kid on the block, the future, the upstart. You're a genetic jackhammer? Its not my baby, its Tommy's? It was me who ran you over with the car and/or hummer.

Anyone worth their salt in pro wrestling knows that in our sport/entertainment it is all about the story. Athletic as this is, was and forever will be its always about the story. It would be easy to go out every night and do all the cool stuff you know how to. People would leave the show satisfied maybe even respectful. But when you go out their and give them a story that they emotional invest in, then you can make them leave with any emotion you want. So if your story is lacking then what do you really have?

I've seen companies in this area and others they don't seem to have their hands on the home keys. They want to have an invasion angle with a company that just started. Do the people love the company enough to care that someone is trying to destroy it? Taking a young talent and pushing him too much, too soon means that you've cut his worth to you in a long run.

Whatever you are trying to accomplish, there is a blueprint out there. You don't have to rip off an angle week for week but at least see how the story was laid out. See what avenues were used to accomplish their goals. Tweak and twist were needed to make a story that fits your unique situation. Because the stories may be alike but they are never identical, I promise and when "The Golden Boy" Greg Anthony makes a promise, its as good as gold.

----Greg Anthony is a regular on the local area circuit. He won RRO Booker of the Year 2008 and is listed in the top 5 of the RRO Top 10 2008. Greg currently can be seen tagging with legend Bobby Eaton and Brian Thompson as “Midnight Gold” and is the EWE Champion.

Dutch Mantell Book is Available!!

----The Dutch Mantell book is available now. RRO friend, who did the Hall of Fame stuff in last year's Yearbook 2008 and Flashbacks, helped him get it out. It would make a perfect Christmas gift for old time fans. CLICK HERE to get details!! CLICK HERE to go to Mark James' Memphis History site!!

Ricky Steamboat Jr., the son of The Dragon, was offered a developmental deal. He hasn't officially signed yet as all new talents are subject to a battery of Wellness tests. He is planning to relocate to Tampa and start with FCW in January. Several independent promoters have noted he is a great kid with a good head on his shoulders. Dusty Rhodes, through a mutual friend of ours, described him as "a puppy with big claws" meaning he's going to be big, but doesn't know how big. Steamboat, 22, was trained by George South and later with Harley Race at his school in Eldon, MO and recently completed tours in Puerto Rico and in Japan with Pro Wrestling NOAH.

ROH wrestler Rhett Titus was among those at the WWE tryout camp in Tampa last week. No word yet on whether he was offered a deal... WWE talent chief John Laurinaitis is scouting at OVW in Louisville, KY on January 6.

UFC has moved it's March 13 PPV in Newark, NJ to Saturday March 26, the night before Wrestlemania 26. That will likely affect both companies competing for dollars that weekend. UFC reportedly made that call because March 13 would have tentatively put the UFC show head-to-head against the planned Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao boxing match, which is expected to draw one of the biggest buy rates in the history of PPV.

I received an advance copy of the WWE DVD, The History of the World Heavyweight Championship, which is released across the country on Tuesday, and in Europe in February. Considering the scope of this project, and much of the material included, the WWE production crew did a decent job on putting this set together. The documentary portion details the linage of the World Heavyweight Championship dating back to Georg Hackenscmidt of Estonia coming over to the U.S. and defeating Tom Jenkins in 1905 to become the recognized World Champion in North America. The early years are narrated by Cowboy Bill Watts and Mike Chapman of the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute in Waterloo, IA. They discuss many of the early greats such as Frank Gotch, defined by Chapman as the greatest World Champion of all-time, along with Lou Thesz, Buddy Rogers, Ed Strangler Lewis, and Whipper Billy Watson also regarded among the all-time greats. They cover how wrestling grew from its popularity on television to regional territories to the formation of the National Wrestling Alliance in 1948. They also detail how Thesz defeated Baron Michele Leone in 1952 to unify the last of the remaining regional titles, to become the first undisputed World Champion since the days of Gotch and Hackenschmidt. You can tell a lot of work went into researching the early years but unfortunately they skip through a lot of the modern era, title changes from Dory Funk Jr. to Jack Brisco to Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Ric Flair. They covered Ted Turner purchasing Jim Crockett Promotions to create WCW, and later switch to the WWE purchasing WCW from AOL/Time Warner. Flair jumping ship to the WWF in the early-90s with the title is covered, and there is a nice mention that during that time Ron Simmons was crowned the first African-American World Champion. They put over the likes of Sting and Vader as credible champions in WCW but mocked later reigns including that of Vince Russo and David Arquette. The story then switches gears from the title being regarded a joke until it's credibility was restored, of course, in WWE by Triple H. They used a lot of archive interview footage. Talking heads included Bob Geigal, Larry Hennig, Chief Jay Strongbow, Bobby Heenan, Harley Race, Gene Kiniski, Jack Brisco, Mae Young, the late Fabulous Moolah, and even Jim Cornette, who hasn't had anything to do with the company since 2005. Matches include: Pat O’Connor vs. Buddy Rogers from June, 1960 at in front of 38,622 fans at Chicago's Comiskey Park, a North American wrestling attendance record that lasted over 20 years; Gene Kiniski vs. Dory Funk Jr. from Tampa, FL in 1969 where Funk won the NWA title with a spinning toehold, which Kinski claims in the DVD that he only submitted to because he thought the match was best of three falls; and Ric Flair vs. Magnum T.A. for the NWA title from Superclash 85; the first co-promotional effort by the NWA and Verne Gagne's AWA to attempt to compete with the WWF's increasing national popularity. This 3-disc set contains over 8 hours of footage, and would suit anyone who enjoys old wrestling. 7/10.

Booker T has told people here he is coming in soon, perhaps at the Royal Rumble in January.

Shawn Michaels and his wife Rebecca were sat courtside at the Spurs-Bobcats game on Friday night. Michaels did a Halftime deal superkicking the Charlotte Bobcat. Photos are online at http://tinyurl.com/y92b2qv. For those keeping score, the Spurs won the game 104-85.

The Miami Herald has a story on CM Punk at http://tinyurl.com/y8hwrhc where he hypes up Tribute to the Troops. He also talks music, and among his favorite bands right now is The Luchagors, which is his girlfriend's band. Smart guy.

Matt Striker had quite a few gaffs last night on commentary. The best came during the Ladder match when Christian was bloodied and they stopped the match to clean the blood. He blamed this on the Texas State Athletic Commission, which doesn't even exist. He also said during the IC title match that that Texas hasn't seen the IC title change hands in 20 years. Mysterio beat JBL for the IC title earlier this year in Houston at Wrestlemania 25.

Matt Hardy totaled his Dad's truck over the weekend and posted a photo on his Twitter page.

Sheamus was a trending topic on Twitter last night for an hour after winning the WWE title.

Chris Jericho and Eve Torries are guests on Fox & Friends from 6am ET on Wednesday morning promoting Tribute to the Troops... Jericho is also doing Jimmy Fallon the same night, technically Thursday morning at 12:35am.

Rey Mysterio turned 35 over the weekend.

Ric Flair is expected to start here soon. Flair, before the recent Hulkamania tour in Australia, called Stephanie McMahon about returning to the WWE, but those discussions are said to be dead at this point. Among the major names TNA are looking to bring in January are Flair, Rob Van Dam, and Jeff Hardy, although those close to Hardy say he is a lock to return to WWE before he works for another company.

The National Enquirer has a blurb on Hulk Hogan with his bride-to-be Jennifer McDaniel saying that Hulk should retire from the ring because she doesn't want him to end up like Randy the Ram. They didn't mention Hulk's claim that he was offered the lead part in The Wrestler before Mickey Rourke.

TNA Epics premieres on Spike on January 14 with a special on Kurt Angle. The show will air Thursday's at 11pm ET following Impact.

Kevin Nash is auditioning for an upcoming episode of Cold Case.

Eric Bischoff was in Nashville for meetings with Dixie Carter this past weekend.

The Harris County Medical Examiner in Houston confirmed that they performed an autopsy on Eddie "Umaga" Fatu. They won't be releasing the results until toxicology testing comes back which is many weeks to months away.

The Hulkamania show, which was taped in Sydney two week's ago, and was scheduled to air Saturday night on One HD in Australia, was pulled very late with no explanation given. The show was replaced with Motocross and TNA Xplosion. While we haven't been able to confirm anything at press time the rumor is that the postponement may have something to do with Umaga. This was his last taped match and appearance before his untimely passing.

Gale Gagne appeared in a Minnesota court house Friday afternoon to answer felony sexual conduct charges. Gagne, 27, the granddaughter of Verne Gagne, is accused of having sex with a then 16-year-old student during the summer of 2008 while working as a high school substitute teacher and assistant basketball coach. District Court Judge Thomas Sipkins ordered that Gagne have no contact with the teenager and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 30. Her attorney, Earl Grey, said Gagne intends to plead not guilty and go to trial.

Bill Apter this past weekend caught up with the Iron Sheik at http://tinyurl.com/y8h5zlc where Sheik rants about Hulk Hogan... On a related note, Sheik and Hogan had a confrontation a few days ago at a hotel in Toronto where Hogan was doing press for his book.

Planet 51 voiced by Dwayne Johnson, Sean William Scott, and Jessica Biel, dropped to No. 11 in its third week at the Box Office. The film has grossed just over $37 million domestically and is pretty much considered a flop. The production budget was more than $70 million.

RassleResults: DoggCW Jonesboro, AR 12.12.09 - Rodney Mack New Champion!!

Show starts by the return of DCW play-by-play announcer Jeff Perryman to the booth along with Casey Rinaldi....Then JD Kerry comes up to the booth and tells Jeff Perryman that he is in his seat and to get up..Perryman tells Kerry that he has to be an adult, you know 16 years or older to sit in this chair...Kerry tells Perryman that he is man enough to get him out of his chair and Perryman and Kerry get in each others' face...Kerry then pushes Perryman and Perryman gets back in his face and tells him that his time is coming, but the time isn't now...Rick Ruby and Senior DCW Official Tim Daniels have to break the two up and Perryman walks down the stairs telling Kerry that his time will come real soon...Kerry takes his place in the announcer's booth along with Casey Rinaldi!! After announcing some matches Kerry tells the DCW Fans that he doesn't want to be bottled up in the announce booth all night, so he hops down from the elevated announcer's booth to hang out with the DCW fans for the night, and about that time Jeff Perryman makes his way back up to announcer's booth and Casey Rinaldi asked him what that was all about and Perryman says dont worry Casey, you will find out soon enough....

Poker Face (DCW World Heavy Weight Champion) comes out to the Price is Right's music, dressed up in a blue suit from the 1970's, to give away some of his money to a lucky fan in the audience tonight...One lucky fan wants to get in and face Poker in some sort of wrestling challenge but she has to wear protective gear..As she precedes to put it on, she couldn't get the gear on right, so Poker tells her he would ask her a trivia question for $200...the fan gets the question wrong but Poker says he still feels like giving some money away, so he invites Angelina and Latricia out to the ring to wrestle for the $200...

Match 1: Angelina vs. Latricia (for $200)
-match is pretty back and forth..both girls looked very good in the ring, but no one could secure a pinfall after 5 minutes so Poker Face gives both girls $100 a piece...after the match Poker closelines both girls to get his money back and starts to put the boots to both ladies until Soul Train Jones comes out to help...Poker tells Jones that he has stuck his nose in his business for the last time and he will give him his re-match for the title later on tonite....

Match 2: Mike Anthony vs. Kolby Stern
-the new talent initiative in DCW is in full effect because Kolby Stern made his Dogg Pound debut against the Absolute, Mike Anthony..match was good! It was a back and forth match the entire way with some good dance/wrestling moves from the young Kolby Stern...Both men trade moves until Anthony rolled Stern up for the 1-2-3...winner Mike Anthony but Stern tells DCW Official Tim Daniels that Anthony had his feet on the ropes and Daniels asked the DCW fans and they agreed so Tim reversed the decision and gives the victory to Kolby Stern..which is a great debut for the new and young superstar in DCW! Winner Kolby Stern...

Match 3: Tejano Kid w/Dangerous Dominique vs. Shawn Reed
-Tejano and Dominique are prob two of the best heels in and around this area! Tejano comes out and starts to speak Spanish to the audience, and they start to chant USA USA USA...Tejano looks up to his friend, Jeff Perryman in the announce booth, and tells him to tell the audience to shut up while he talks...DCW announcer Jeff Perryman gets up and tells the arena to shut their mouths when Tejano or Dominique are talking and Tejano tells the crowd that no one is smarter in this building that his friend Jeff Perryman, he tells them at least he is smart enough to know how to speak another language...match starts out with another new DCW superstar Shawn Reed making his debut in the Dogg House...match was pretty much dominated by Tejano for most of the match but Reed gave Tejano all he could handle at times but Tejano rolls up Reed to get the 1-2-3...winner TK w/Dangerous Dominique

Match 4: Ron McClarity vs. Boss
-Ron comes out and spots JD Kerry in the audience and tells him he could only wish to be big or old enough to get in here with the big boys to wrestle...Ron begins to really lay into JD Kerry, but Boss slips into the ring without Ron seeing him and he jumps Ron..I tell you what this match was REALLY GOOD! Since Boss' turned over to the good side so to speak, he has really come into his own..and being in the ring with one of the greatest wrestlers in the Southern part of the United States means, these two were going to have a great match! Boss actually controls a lot of the match with his powerful moves...after a few minutes of back and forth action, McClarity rolls Boss up and gets the 1-2-3 (by using his tights)...winner Ron McClarity!! Ive watch a lot of wrestling in my life and been to probably over fifty WWE, WCW, and TNA shows over the years and Boss has a bright future in this business...and in my opinion there are probably only two or three heels in this business (including WWE and TNA) who can even compete with Ron McClarity as a heel..those guys being Randy Orton, Edge when he is healthy, and Chris Jericho!!

Intermission.....

Earlier in the night..Jon Allen and Pimptacular came out and helped the young Kolby Stern when he was attacked by Mike Anthony after his match...Anthony told both Allen and Pimp to be ready later on because he had a suprise for them...so Allen and Pimp come out to the ring and are getting ready to face Anthony and Diamond but Mike Ward comes out with his Gorillaz...

Match 5: Gorrilaz w/Mike Ward vs. Jon Allen and Pimptacular (w/Special Guest Referee Reno Diamond)-match was good the whole way through..these to Gorillaz, Chaos and Havoc, are massive and you cant understand how big they are unless you come out to the show...Match goes back and forth with Jon Allen really putting on a good clinic of text book drop kicks and speed wrestling...Jon Allen is really rising to be one of the top babyface's in DCW and in this area...while Ref Reno Diamond's back is turned, Mike Anthony comes out and uses a double-knee face buster move on Pimp to help the Gorillaz get the 1-2-3...winner the Gorillaz w/Mike Ward

Match 6: Soul Train vs. Poker Face for the DCW World Heavy Weight Championship
-match was back and forth! Since Poker put the Redd Dogg Rodney Mack out of wrestling, he has dominated this area since! And with Soul Train being the senior member of the Dogg Pound, he has had to take over the leadership role...Soul Train is so powerful and strong and really uses his strength in this match by military pressing Poker from the outside to throw him inside the ring...Poker starts to gain control of the match, but Soul Train tries to make a comeback with the help of the Dogg House, but Poker goes outside to grab the DCW World Heavy Weight belt to hit Soul Train with it...Ref Tim Daniels grabs the belt from him and throws it outside but Poker Face gives Soul Train a low blow and hits him with a big kick to the head for the 1-2-3...winner and still DCW World Heavy Weight Champion Poker Face.....
crowd was pretty good tonite..i was told it was around the 130 mark, but Im not for sure! Overall great show from top to bottom..

The Southeast Outlook, a Christian Church publication in Louisville, has a story on Matt Cappotelli, who was released from his WWE contract in January while battling a malignant brain tumor. He talks about becoming a born-again Christian. He said after his tumor was diagnosed he got two tattoos, one on each arms, in Hebrew letters, which translates to "Through His blood... I am healed." The story notes he currently works at a local gym and is finishing a degree in exercise physiology. He says he is still working towards being healthy enough to resume his wrestling career. "My life is in God’s hands," he said. "I want to return to the ring, but I don’t want to do it for selfish reasons. If I’m on the huge stage again, I’ll be a witness and let Him shine through me." Full story at http://tinyurl.com/ybbx8kf.

Regarding guys failing drug tests, being released, and then returning to the company, WWE has clarified it's position on this with an update to it's Wellness Program. The policy states: "Any WWE talent who leaves the WWE for any reason with a first or second violation on his/her record will maintain those strikes if he/she returns to the WWE... A WWE Talent who is terminated by the WWE for a third violation will be prohibited from returning to the WWE for at least one year."

The term "Umaga" was the No. 18 search on Google.com on December 5, which equates to over one million searches with people trying to find out information on his passing.

Jamie Noble was helping out with training at FCW this past week. They also brought in Edge and Ricky Steamboat as guest speakers to give advice to developmental prospects. Edge was said to be moving around quite well and noted to one person he is targeting a return in the first quarter of 2010. He may actually be slightly ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation following surgery in July to repair a torn Achilles tendon

The Michigan State college newspaper at http://tinyurl.com/y94r2rm interviewed Kyle Rasmussen who is currently under a developmental deal as Conrad Tanner in FCW. He was an academic All-American and former defensive tackle with the Spartans. He talked about breaking into wrestling under Rick Bassman in California after meeting him at Gold's Gym in Venice. He said: "The way it came about, when I was out in Los Angeles, I was working out at Gold's Gym out in Venice, and somebody approached me and asked if I'd thought about wrestling before. I'd thought about it once or twice, never really seriously. He ended up putting me in touch with this guy named Rick Bassman, he's a talent scout, I guess you would call him. He's actually the guy who got John Cena started with his career. But I talked to him and he got me set up with a wrestling school in California, then a few months down the road, he took me backstage when the WWE was at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to see the people who make the decisions. They offered me a tryout and flew me to Tampa for a week-long tryout. After that, I flew back home and they eventually offered me a contract."

The latest issue of Video Magazine has a feature on Batista, Rob Van Dam, and Ja Rule pushing the movie Wrong Side Of Town. The film is released on DVD February 23 and stars RVD as a former Navy Seal out for revenge by killing a crooked night club owner who attacked his wife. Batista filmed his scenes during injury downtime and WWE weren't too thrilled with his involvement due to the movie being Rated R. He is credited under the spelling of his legal name Bautista. The director is David DeFalco, an ex-wrestler and bodybuilder turned filmmaker who made a name for himself with the Last House On The Left. A trailer is online at http://tinyurl.com/ybalh6w.

The Irish Voice has a feature on Sheamus at http://tinyurl.com/yc3agbd. He says he wants to be the first Irish WWE Champion, although Vince McMahon would probably already want to hold that claim. He said: "I want to give Irish kids something to be proud of back home. I want to bring out a stronger image of Ireland, instead of 'Irish Spring' and 'Lucky Charms' and all that rubbish."

Slam Wrestling at http://tinyurl.com/yer8fej has a story on Maryse. She noted she worked from last December until July with torn ligaments in her knee after suffering a dislocation the day after winning the Divas title. She said: "To do the job that I’m doing, to be on the road 300 days a year, to be up at 4am for interviews, to travel all around the world, and to do so many different things at the same time, you have to be really versatile. You have to be a professional, or else I don’t think it’s going to work out for you. You have to be focused, or else you can easily lose it."

There is an interview with Lauren Jones at http://tinyurl.com/yctlbyn who had a brief stint with WWE late-2004 early-2005. She claims she asked for her released because, "I had realized that I at some point I would wind up either forced to do Playboy and continuing wrestling and I didn’t see that as something I wanted to do at the time. I really wanted to move into movies and film production. So, I decided to pursue some other opportunities that came along." She added: "I love the family at WWE and if Vince had asked me to something like that I would absolutely come back. But, I think a lot of that has to do with the fans. If the fans wanted me back, I’m back. The fans are what create careers. If the fans support me, I’m there. I will do whatever they want me to do."

A correction from a previous newsletter. Timberland is hosting the December 28 Raw in Hartford, CT not Charlotte, which has a Smackdown house show the same night.

SkySports.com has an interview with Kofi Kingston at http://tinyurl.com/yeccnem. He talks in-character as a lot of the talent have recently been told to kayfabe the media when possible.

In UK ratings for the week ending November 29, Raw did 42,000 viewers in the live time slot (-20,000 viewers on last week), and 33,000 viewers in the replay (-2,000). Smackdown did 56,000 viewers in its first airing (+8,000) and did 47,000 viewers in a Saturday morning replay. TNA Impact did not get a top 10 placing on Bravo, drawing in 37,000 or less viewers meaning a loss of at least 15,000 viewers from the previous week. Thanks to Ian Hamilton of www.theringsidelive.com.

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS

Slam Wrestling has a story on Hulk Hogan at http://tinyurl.com/yb9lwcc. He defined his position with TNA as a "creative executive position" and claimed he led Monday Night Nitro to spank Monday Night Raw for 2 1/2 years. Well, it was actually 84 consecutive weeks so he's only 46 weeks out. He said regarding Vince Russo: "If the wrestlers need a writer to tell them what to do, they can pack their bags and go north to WWE. Writers don't have a feel and instinct for the business. They've never been in the ring. If I can't make it work, I'll pack my bags and leave. I want to make the characters come alive. Characters like Andre the Giant and Rowdy Roddy Piper were larger than life. That's what I want. TNA is doing a lot of things right. They have a lot of great talent. But there are a lot of major WWE stars burning my phone up, asking if they can work for TNA when their contracts are up." He said he has no current plans to wrestle here but if the fans cheer loud enough, "then maybe we have to do something about it."

Hogan Energy, Hulk's nutrition supplement business venture, is now selling Extreme Energy Granules, a supplement poured directly in the mouth. Speaking of which... Hogan was a guest on TSN's Off The record at www.tsn.ca/otr. He told a story about his first ever night in the WWF. He claimed the boys ribbed him that if he didn't give Pat Paterson oral sex after the show everyone was going to "gang rape" him. After his match, he went to the back and was ready to fight, but realized it was all a big rib and was greeted with cheers and a beer bath.

Some interesting names have been booked for the December 21 Impact taping.

Impact finished it's promotional run on UK freeview chanel Virgin One. The show continues to air in the usual Saturday night timeslot on Bravo.

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS

Time Warner on December 9 officially parted ways with AOL as a separate independent company. Those steering WCW back in 2000 (Nash, Russo, Hogan, and Kevin Sullivan) blamed the AOL/Time Warner merger as the death of the wrestling company. RD Reynolds and Bryan Alverez' excellent 2005 book The Death of WCW (which Dixie Carter should read) asserts that Jamie Kellner of TBS was the one who really killed the company. Despite a downturn in ratings (WCW's ratings were still higher than most programming on TNT and TBS at the time) and a financial crisis, former WCW president Eric Bischoff (through Fusient Media Ventures) was interested in buying WCW and turning it around. In March 2001, Kellner announced that TBS would no longer air wrestling shows, and a few weeks later the WWE purchased WCW and its assets, leaving Vince McMahon with a virtual monopoly on professional wrestling. Kellner was ultimately the one who pulled the trigger, but it was guys like Nash, Russo, Hogan, Sullivan, etc. who took a company that grossed over $200 million and booked it into oblivion. Had they been grossing $200 million in 2001, Kellner wouldn't have canceled the show no matter how much he hated pro wrestling. But he did hate it and it was in the hole for $60-$80 million; thanks largely to the terrible booking year after year and the fact they drove away fans and killed buyrates, and so it was an easy decision for him to make. Plus, there were so many lawsuits pending for various things that it was more trouble than it was worth. And it was worth less than nothing.

Gale Gagne, the granddaughter of Hall of Famer Verne Gagne, surrendered to Minnesota authorities Thursday to face felony sexual conduct charges. She posted bail and was released from Hennepin County Jail. Gagne, 27, is accused of having sex with a student while working as a high school substitute teacher and assistant basketball coach. The alleged sexual contact occurred during the summer of 2008 when the boy was 16 and Gagne was 25 and is alleged to have taken place in Gagne’s home in Bloomington and at a hotel where the two allegedly spent the night together. Her attorney, Earl Gray (again, what an awesome name), said she intends to plead not guilty on both charges.

Promoter Norm Connors, who ran shows in Pittsburgh for many years, is quietly retiring this weekend with his last shows in Elizabeth, PA. Among those booked are AJ Styles, Shane Douglas, The Sandman, Colt Cabana, Larry Sweeney, and the bWo gimmick with The Blue Meanie and Mike "Nova" Bucci.

The trailer for Ultimate Death Match 2 is online at http://tinyurl.com/y9kcdrg which stars several wrestlers including Kevin Nash, Al Snow, Shane Douglas, Jimmy Valiant, April Hunter, and Melissa Coates. The movie was shot several weeks ago at the Davis Arena, the home of Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, KY.

Jim Cornette noted in a great interview with www.f4wonline.com that he would be meeting with OVW owner Danny Davis next week and maybe doing something again with the group. A high percentage of the current WWE roster is made up of talent who at one time or another trained with OVW during a near decade-long developmental affiliation.

Marvin Ward out of Virginia is apparently promoting an upcoming tour of China under the banner of American Wrestling Entertainment. He has been working on getting the tour off the ground for a while. Ward works with or did work with former WWE official Dave Hebner, and together they operate Ward-Hebner Promotions. Former WWE wrestler Ryan O'Reily has already confirmed his involvement in the tour.

The Delaware News Journal at http://tinyurl.com/yahlxhw has a story on Rebook's EasyTone footware which reportedly involves technology that can "make women walk better, but will sculpt and tone their calves, thighs and buttocks." Stacy Keibler endorses the product and is quoted as saying: "They strengthen your butt and your hamstring muscles by 28 percent, so even though I'm going to the gym in them, I'm getting a double workout."

Former WWE Diva Amy Weber made a Fox News slideshow on Bikinis at http://tinyurl.com/ya5q75c.

Trish Stratus has a fundraiser December 18 at her Yoga studio in the Toronto-area to raise money for Carmelina's Home; a women's long-term residential program. More info at www.trishstratus.com.

Candice Michelle, who is pregnant, came down with flu and pulled out of her scheduled appearances this weekend.
