Site News!!

----I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support of the site. The response to the site in the last year has been more than I ever expected. There have been numerous requests for me to start covering other areas and I guess I have held off as long as I can. The site will be slowly getting a revamp of a new logo and the news page will be changed just a bit in the next few weeks. Coverage will now include Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and possibly Florida. As with the start of the site, I expect a few kinks and such to iron out with reporters and such, but I will be trying my best to keep the “feel” that everyone seems to like about the site.

----As you probably have also noticed, Gene Jackson [who has been doing a great job!!] and I have added various items from the WWE and just “different” type news items. It is not my goal to cover WWE or TNA, as you are able to look at tons of sites for that, but when I or one of my columnists feels like adding something, and then we will.

Great Championship Wrestling in Phoenix City, AL 7.28.07

Great Championship Wrestling returned to action in Phoenix City, Alabama at the Gr8 Sk8 Plex.
It was a good show, and a vast improvement over the debacle I saw seven weeks ago after GCW first made the switch back to Saturdays. Only five matches, but they can get away with it so long as they have sufficient content, and there was more than enough last night.

Attendance was 100 with tickets priced at $12 and $15. They’ve been averaging a little better than that, maybe 125. The crowd was on the dead side with a few exceptions. As heavyweight champion, Scotty Beach was the only babyface that got a significant entrance pop. Quentin Michaels gets mega heat as the leader of Michaels Inc, the top heel group that has fallen on hard times.

Ring announcer Billy Roper reminded fans that Deathrow was barred from the building.

(1) Frankie Valentine & Jonathan Davis beat Reuben James & Randall Johnson in 8:51. Cruiserweight action. Johnson is no giant and he was the biggest guy in there. It’s the norm for Valentine to get a nose bleed, but it didn’t happen here. It was mostly Davis and James. Davis was tenacious with the armbar in the early going. The action picked up with Davis pulling out a sit spin huracanrana, and James coming right back with a fireman’s carry gutbuster followed up with a lariat for a two count. Davis took the heat. Johnson used a swank modified Gori Special. James used a springboard back elbow and a northern lights suplex for near falls. Davis scored with a tornado DDT to set up the hot tag. Valentine pinned James with a step up leg drop. There were a few spots that didn’t look very convincing, but overall a pretty good opener.

After the match, Deathrow made a trance-like entrance and left all four of them laying in his wake. The sheriff arrested Deathrow and he was escorted up the ramp by the intern. Either I was hallucinating or the intern had him in a hammerlock. I think the AMA would disapprove.

Quentin Michaels Esquire came out to address the crowd. They didn't want to hear from the man they call "weasel." Michaels told Roper he was wearing the ugliest bowling shoes ever. “Burn them.” Michaels said that as the leader and CEO of Michaels Inc., he was putting an end to the bitching and moaning by Johnny Swinger and Bull Buchanan. That brought Swinger out. Swinger got in Michaels’ face and accused him of poisoning Buchanan’s “pea brain." Swinger blamed Michaels for costing him the GCW Heavyweight Title. Michaels said it wasn’t his fault. Swinger said he didn’t need Michaels and could make better use of the 15% he was paying him. Swinger told Michaels to get out of the ring or he would drop him with his finisher. “And your shoes stink, too…Bull Buchanan, you’re going to be a casualty of the pathetic group known as Michaels Incorporated.” Both were really strong here. An excellent segment.

(2) Thug Row beat Amien Rios in 4:07. Thug is a Shad Gaspard (Cryme Tyme) knockoff. Horrible name. Thug has the size and the physique. Question is: can he wrestle? Thug ordered Rios to kiss his boot and then sucker punched him. The top turnbuckle came apart when Thug whipped Rios in, which certainly didn’t hurt the intended image of a thug to be reckoned with. Thug refused to allow the pin after a big bodyslam. Rios came to life with a lucha style sit spin on the ropes and got a two count with a springboard roundhouse. Rios ducked a high boot, but Thug caught him with a modified uranage for the pin.

A promo by A. J. Steele was shown on the video screen. The former GCW Tag Team and Heavyweight Champion said he was coming after Deathrow. “I’m the monster.”

Next up was a video promo by Luke Robinson Michaels, the alleged son of Quentin Michaels. Younger brother would be more like it. Michaels said that unlike Scotty Beach, the last seven months in the life of LRM had been no paradise. LRM said he was going to take Beach’s title and was willing to do anything to regain his father’s good graces.

(3) David Young beat Johnny Swinger in 13:50. Almost no pop at all for Young, a two-time GCW Heavyweight Champion and five time tag team champion. What’s up with that? They did a comedy bit where Swinger hit referee Jeff McGowan on the sly and blamed Young. Young then tricked Swinger into blatantly hitting McGowan, who really shows authority for such a young ref. His dad taught him well. With Swinger in control, Michaels sauntered down to ringside. Swinger was not happy to see him. Swinger kept cutting off Young’s comebacks. There was a mild “David” chant. Young took a flying crotch bump on the middle turnbuckle. Swinger went for a pin with his feet all over the ropes, but McGowan was wise to it. Young fired back with chops and hit a back suplex for a double down spot. They collided midring. Swinger came off the top and did a flip bump when Young socked him in the gut. Young gave Swinger the 10 punches. Seeing Swinger in trouble, Michaels tried to hand him his shoe. The distraction allowed Young roll Swinger up for the three count. Swinger got in a heated argument with Michaels.

The perverse comedy moment of the evening occurred during the previous match when a ringside fan did a spastic dance for Chuck, who is the official ring inspector and also has a developmental disabilty. You’re not going to see stuff like that except at a pro wrestling show.

A promo by Scotty Beach was shown on the video screen. “Everything’s beachy in paradise,” said Beach, who comes across about as babyface as the Miz. The slacker beachboy thing comes across more arrogant than cool, and that annoying laugh only makes matters worse.

(4) Chris Stevens beat Bull Buchanan in 13:02. This was the best match I saw this weekend. Both men had their works shoes on. You had two big guys that can really go and like it stiff. Just a modest respect pop for Stevens. Hot start. They traded blows with Stevens seated on the top turnbuckle until Stevens took a bump over the top. Stevens got on the mic and told Buchanan to bring it. They brawled on the floor. Buchanan posted Stevens. Once inside the ring, it was all Buchanan. Michaels showed up at ringside again. Buchanan said he didn’t want him either. Buchanan hit a big running powerslam. But Stevens kicked out and Buchanan was getting frustrated. Stevens countered another powerslam attempt with a roll up. Buchanan locked in a claw hold. Stevens’ arm dropped twice. Then, he brought it up for a low blow. Stevens dazed Buchanan with a shoulder block. A springboard shoulder block put Buchanan down for a two count. Buchanan tried for his finisher, the claw slam, but couldn’t get it. Buchanan leveled Stevens with a high boot. The presence of Swinger at ringside distracted Buchanan. Swinger snapped Buchanan’s neck off the top rope and Stevens hit a flying neckbreaker for the pin. Great execution on the finish.

Michaels yelled at Swinger. Buchanan told Swinger that when he comes at him, he comes hard and fast and in his face. He challenged Swinger to a match next week. Buchanan turned his attention to Michaels. He said Michaels had been straddling the fence and it was time to make up your mind. Buchanan said Michaels would be the special ref and if he balked, there was a lady (owner Diane Hewes) who would gladly to sign it. Michaels said Buchanan wouldn’t be happy until it all crumbled. Michaels said OK, but he was calling it right down the middle, so it would be all Bull’s fault if he lost. They’ve done a nice job with the storyline around the dissension within Michaels Inc. This would have made a sweet television segment with close up shots of Stevens, Buchanan, Swinger and Michaels. It cried for a commissioner (what happened to Bo Oates?) or if not, then Hewes to order the special ref stipulation rather than Buchanan.

On the video screen, we saw the intern laid out in the back.

(5) In a fatal four-way for the GCW Heavyweight Title, Luke Robinson Michaels beat Scotty Beach and Shaun Banks and A. J. Steele in a fatal four way via DQ. Beach retained the title. (18:35) Good match, especially the closing minutes. It was only match that had sustained heat. The kids are into Beach. Worked mostly as a tag match with Steele joining forces with Beach, and Banks and LRM on the heel side. It was my first chance to see LRM in action. He did a lot of comedy stuff. I couldn’t tell a whole lot about his wrestling. Banks, the Columbus Champion, is small but cut like a human action figure and a very good worker. Steele got to show is stuff. He’s got power to burn, but his offense looked sloppy in spots. LRM tried for a pin and went flying when Steele powered out. Steele started clubbering away on LRM. Steele hit an overhead belly to belly suplex on LRM and Banks had to make the save. Unable to cope with Steele’s power, the heels took out Steele’s knee and worked it over for a very long time. Steele was doing a lot of screaming. Banks went for a pin after a spinwheel kick and LRM broke it up. They argued. Then they stereo punched Steele and laughed. Then Steele shut them up with a double lariat. Nice. Steele’s knee gave out on a press slam attempt. Moments later, Steele managed to back bodydrop LRM and make the tag. Referee Randy Ray got bumped. The big spot was a four-way tower of doom that saw Beach do a double superplex on Banks and LRM, while Steele gave Beach an electric chair drop. Dangerous as hell with that low ceiling. Beach wanted LRM (in storyline, LRM started out as Beach’s biggest fan and then turned on him the first time he got in the ring). Deathrow came to ringside and grabbed Steele. He slammed Steele on the carpet and bounced a section of the guardrail off his body to leave him laying. Pretty brutal stuff. Meanwhile, LRM brought a chair in. Beach ended up using the chair on LRM, and Ray saw it for the DQ. LRM ran off with the title belt. Steele was down for a long time.

NOTES: GCW returns to the Gr8 Sk8 Plex on 8/4 with Deathrow vs. Steele, Stevens & Young vs. Luke Robinson Michaels & Banks for the tag titles and Swinger vs. Buchanan with Quentin Michaels as the special referee…GCW is in serious discussions involving the launch of a 30 minute television show on East Alabama cable…John Bogie has been out of action for about 3 weeks due to injury. They’re doing an angle where Bogie has heat with Davis for being a Gary Coleman look-alike and infringing on his 80s gimmick…GCW is running their first double shot on 8/18 with an afternoon show in Roanoke, Al with The Naturals on the card along with their regular evening show in Phenix City. ..CWA Championship Wrestling presents"Summer Bash Blowout" at the Fairgrounds Building in Selmer,TN on 8/4. ----As a result of last week's brawl, The Posse and Hot Topic were suspended until Super Summer Showdown on August 11th. The suspensions automatically remove Stan Lee and Lil' Chris from the tournament to name a #1 Contender for the Extreme Title. The men Stan and Chris defeated in the first round were allowed to take their places. However, Tattoo was unable to appear in TLCW this week which allowed Dell Tucker to advance by forfeit.

RassleResults: MEWA Batesville, AR 7.28.07 Legends Return and M.E.W.A Welcomes New Faces.

The show was delayed for 35 minutes do to the fact that was a power outage. Even with that 272 people waited along with the entire star’s to start the show.

Once the power had returned the First Match of the night had the return of an Indy Legend and a new tag team wanting to make a name for themselves in Main Event Wrestling America. The match was newcomers Shane and Kevin Sanchez known as "X-Rated". They had the huge task of facing The Gravedigger and his partner Big Al. This match was a mismatch from the start with the power and force that Gravedigger and Big Al bring to the ring. Al and Digger beat the Sanchez Brothers from one side of the ring to the other, the Sanchez Brothers tried with all the had to hold up to Digger and Al. In the end Gravedigger gave the Sanchez Brothers a Double Choke Slam to get the win in 7:52.

The Second Match of the evening was a rematch from the past with Kid Nickels taking on Eric Wayne. The fans could tell there is no love between these two men, as they went inside and outside the ring. The fans chanted Fagot at Eric Wayne during the match, with Kid Nickels leading the chant as the fans got louder and louder. Kid used everything he had on Wayne, but Wayne was able to get the win in 8:44.

The Third Match of the night had a newcomer to M.E.W.A - he was Kareem Sadot taking on Chris Stryker. Sadot was using his high-impact moves on Stryker, but Stryker moved and Sadot injured his right shoulder. He tried to fight off Stryker with his left arm, but Stryker took full advantage of his injury and got the win in 3:55.

The Forth Match was another Indy Legend being challenged by another newcomer. “Crazy” Luke Graham Jr. took on The Prophet. The Prophet was huge man standing well over 6 feet tall and weight's 300 plus pounds but he moved like a Light Weight. Graham tried to use all his dirty little tricks and even used the Golden Graham Spike on Prophet. The Prophet climbed to the top rope and delivered a Flying Elbow to Graham and got the victory in 13:12.

The Semi-Main Event was a M.E.W.A Light Heavy Title Rematch between the champion “Mr. Playboy” Tommy Wayne defending his title against “The Suicide King” Ray Ray. Ray Ray had used his rematch clause to get this match, being very sure he would regain the M.E.W.A Light Heavy Title. These two men gave the fan’s what they wanted with Ray using the 619, flying elbow on Wayne. Tommy returns the favor by tossing Ray to the floor and hitting him with his own high-flying moves. Mr. Playboy used the chants from the fans to help him go on with all the pain his body was feeling and was able defended his M.E.W.A Light Heavy Title in 11:24.

The Main Event was the rematch of sores from last week between Danger Zone {“Dangerous” Dave Cox and “Hot Rod” John Ellison} being challenged by Johnny Harper. The Casino Kid was unable to compete this week, with him still recovering from the Concussion he received last week facing Danger Zone. Harper came to the ring ready to face Danger Zone alone when Commissioner Johnny Hawk came out and announced the he had brought in a special partner for Harper. Hawk made this a Non-Title Match and announced that Joey Grunge was making his return to M.E.W.A after a long absence. This match was out of control from the start with the ref. unable to control the action. Grunge and Cox beat the HELL out of each other outside the ring and even up the entrance ramp. Harper and Ellison were going toe-to-toe inside the ring, Harper was using his “Old School” moves to brake down Ellison, and so he could not use his High Impact moves Hot Rod is famous for. After 4:29 the Ref. thought out the match declaring there was “No Winner”. Harper and Danger Zone are well on there way to making this a very serious war between the 3 Indy Legends. Danger Zone is an old school team they were trained in the school of hard knocks, the same way as Harper was trained as well. Danger Zone has and will hurt anyone who gets in there way, with them leaving a path of injuries. The fans are wondering who, if anyone can stop them?

Love this Angle!!

----This was the first big show of NBW's that I missed and I wished I could have been there to see this angle --

"By this time, Mark Justice made his way out to ringside as Kilo was headed to the top rope to deliver his signature frogsplash, Justice grabbed Kilo's daughter, who was at ringside cheering on her dad, by the hair which stopped Kilo in his tracks. Security had to restrain Kilo's wife Auburn and even his mother who was there as well. Kilo went outside the ring after Justice, who drug Kilo's daughter into the ring where Kilo followed."

----This angle in the old days would have been called a "money angle" and should help them draw a bigger crowd. Kudos to whoever came up with this one.

Memphis Wrestling TV Report 7.28.07

----Corey Maclin opens Memphis Wrestling with an interview with "Total Protection" Mr. Hughes - Hughes says he wants competition and threatens to "slap the tar off" Maclin. Mr. Hughes beats Chris Lexx. Hughes gave Lexx a bit. Lexx looks real good putting the big guys over.

----Maclin promoted "The Finale" on August 17, 2007. Maclin says this is the last show of the year at “Sam's Town”?? He also puts over that next week they will be airing "Grand Slam" from AutoZone Park.

----"Too Cool 2" [Tim Grind/Flex] interview with them rapping and singing. Funny. TC2 beat "The Posse" [Lil Chris/Simon Reed] in a real good tag match. Chris was taking heat the whole match until the hot tag to Reed. A few real good hope spots. Match just flowed real good. During the hot tag, Reed had to tag Chris back in because he hurt his leg. Grind knocked Reed off the ring apron and TC2 did their double team driver RKO move on Chris for the pin.

----Kevin White comes out - "I want my Daddy back!!" They show the clip from last week of Spellbinder kidnapping Mr. White. White had a picture of his dad on a milk carton. "The Agents" give away fliers out to the fans. They have a $50,000 award for anyone that can find him. This was funny. Charlie Lear beat Kevin White by COR. White put Lear in the figure four leglock and he was ready to submit, when Spellbinder came out by the curtain. White got out yelling "I want my Daddy back" and The Agents were holding him back and was counted out of the ring.

----"Opening the Vault" with Jerry Lawler/Austin Idol vs Road Warriors. They joined the match right at the hot tag. The teams were both DQ'ed. They did a big pull a part brawl after the match.

----Derrick King/Insane Clowns with Rashard Devon. Devon comes out with baseball gear on and says that the Redbirds need new players since they are so bad. Spellbinder/Tatt2/Dustin Starr beat King/Clowns by DQ. Heat on Starr with hot tag to Spell. Spell ended up chasing DK all over the ring and then Rashard jumped in hitting Tatt2 with a baseball bat for the DQ. The Clowns had a base that they sit right in front of Tatt2 legs as he was in a corner and did a baseball slide right between his legs. Good match. Starr looked good adding suplexs to his repertoire.

----Johnny Rotten interview - not a good interview. Rotten squashed Cameron Valentine. At the front of the match, Valentine hit Rotten with a dropkick that looked to have potatoed him. Rotten then threw a couple of punches to Valentine and Maclin said Rotten had potatoed Valentine because of what he did earlier. Rotten beat him with a chokeslam.

---- Notes: Not sure what the deal is with the August show being the last "Sam's Town" show of the year?? I will try have details of this sometime this week...Have I mentioned that Tim Grind has one of the best bodies here now?? LOL No, I don't have a crush on him, but in the last two months Grind has went from chubby to hardly no body fat...White/Spell angle is very entertaining...Rotten is a big guy, but he has gray hair, which makes him look old. Well, makes him look his age. Maclin/Rotten did good selling Rotten as a monster...This was a good show with two real good matches, but not much building for existing angles . TC2 went to a DCO with Tatt2/Starr last week in a brawl, but did not even touch each other this week?? Johnny Dotson was not even on the show and is suppose to have this feud with DK?? They did further the Mr. White angle and put over Rotten/Vicious/Lawler feud, even though Vicious and Lawler were not there.

RassleResults: NBW:VENDETTA. 7.28.07 - NEW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!

Vendetta opened up with a 5 Way elimination match featuring Crazy Train, "Straight Shooter" Gunner Thompson, The Sicilian Kid, Buckwheat and NBW newcomer Urban Commando.
Thompson eliminated Buckwheat after a sick version of the Muscle Buster. Thompson then eliminated Kid after his version of "Shock Treatment". Crazy Train hit Commando with a "Tomahawk chop, Thompson cut Train off and then pinned Commando. Thompson then went after Crazy Train, going for a "Modest Bomb", but Train slipped out and caught Thompson with a schoolboy eliminating him and winning the match........looks to me that someone has been watching too much TNA.

"The One Man Wrecking Crew" Tank defeated "The Enforcer" Mark Justice in the finals of the NBW Lucky 7 Tournament. this match started off unusual. during the in ring introductions, Justice was on the 2ND rope posing for the crowd, before jumping off and injuring his knee. everyone thought Justice was hurt with all the security guards even getting in the ring to help take Justice to the back. Tank, being a good sport, went to check on Justice and when he did, Justice nailed Tank in the side of his knee, and let everyone in the arena know just how twisted he can be. Justice was playing opossum all along. Justice worked over Tanks knee for a good 5 or 6 minutes with Tank trying to come back on him, but every time Tank began any kind of offense, Justice would go right back and attack the knee of the big man. Justice was going for a chop block, when from out of nowhere, Tank turned around and took Justice's head off with a clothesline. Tank then delivered a HIGH backdrop, that left Justice wondering if he was ever coming down. by this time, the wrestler formerly known as Slim Pickens came to the ring. Justice raked Tanks eyes and held him up so Pickens could nail him, but before he could, Justice shoved Tank down and told the referee to watch this, as Pickens nailed Justice and the referee called for the bell. Justice won the match by Disqualification........or so he thought. As Justice and Pickens was working over Tanks already injured leg, NBW Commissioner Allen Walker made his way to ringside and got the mic telling Justice that since this was the tournament finals, Justice was not going to get an easy win like he did to get into the finals, and that this match was now a no DQ match and ordered the match to restart. Kilo came out and dragged Pickens to the locker room, and Tank caught Justice as he turned around and was going for his "Detonator" but Justice lunged out of it and nailed the leg of Tank again. Justice then came running at Tank for a clothesline, which Tank ducked and caught Justice coming off the ropes and hit him with the "Warhead" sitdown chokeslam for the 1,2,3.

Team X beat The Treat Connection to not only keep their mask, but to become the new NBW Tag-Team Champions. after jumping the challengers before the bell, it looked like everyone was going to finally get to see what Team X looked like without a mask. Treat & Cannon beat the hell out of Gryffon X, to the point that he could not even stand up on his own. Phoenix was on the outside the entire time, trying desperately to make the tag to his partner, but every time Gryffon would come close, Treat or Canon would cut him off. Gryffon actually made the tag a couple of times, but the referees back was turned so it didn't stand. After getting an energy burst, Gryffon ducked a clothesline from Cannon, and nailed a spinning heel kick and finally made the tag to Phoenix who came in and nailed both Treat & Cannon, and even knocked down their manager Buckwheat who was at ringside after he got on the apron. Connection quickly got the upper hand again and it was a 4 way brawl in the middle of the ring. after a miss-communication by Treat & Cannon that caused them to collide, Gryffon rolled up Cannon for the 3 to keep their identity in tact and become the new tag-team champs.

NBW Hardcore Championship
(C) Lil' Tim Alfonzo vs. Psycho vs. Void
what can be said about this match that cannot be said about any other hardcore match that involves 2 of the most deranged men in the mid-south. Void and Psycho are not strangers and Lil' Tim just added to the mix as these men used boards, road signs, a ladder, a shopping cart, barbed wire, thumbtacks and whatever else they could get ahold of. a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood came into play first as Void and Psycho took turns sending Lil' Tim head first into it, but it wouldn't break. I guess he don't weight enough! Then after Lil' Tim was out of the equation, Psycho and Void went at it nailing each other with STIFF punches that shook everybody that was watching. Psycho sent Void head first into the board and it cracked, causing Void to get cut. Lil' Tim was back in the ring by this time and Psycho put Void on top of the shopping cart and Lil' Tim came off with a splash across Voids back. Lil' Tim then started nailing Psycho with a Railroad sign causing Psycho to get busted open. Lil' Tim then broke out the thumbtacks, but got slammed on them for his troubles. Psycho then gave Void a suplex on the tacks. There was way too much to call everything, but at this point everyone was bleeding good. Towards the end of the match, Lil' Tim got power bombed on the tacks by Psycho. Void caught Psycho off guard and was hitting him with anything he could pick up. Psycho caught Void with a sign shot, Lil' Tim nailed Psycho sending him outside the ring, and Lil' Tim pinned Void to retain his Hardcore title, and escape within an inch of his life........CRAZY MF'RS

J.R. Manson (formerly Slim Pickens) beat "Upset Kid" Jeremy Moore to retain the NBW High Risk title. this match had pretty good heat, with Manson just turning heel, so Manson was using every cheap trick he knows. Moore had a couple of short lived comebacks, but Manson cut him right back off. At the end of the match, Moore was giving Manson hell and was setting him up for the "RKO", but Manson cut him off and went into his tights for a chain. The referee caught Manson and took the chain away. As the referee was giving the chain to one of NBW security, Jimmy Tidwell slipped Manson a pair of brass knucks, Manson nailed Moore and when the referee turned around Manson had Moore pinned to retain the High Risk Title, once again beating Jeremy Moore, who has lost his last 3 matches. "Upset Kid"?.......Not anymore.

Chris "Fabulous" Rocker & Motley Cruz defeated The Black Label Society(A.J. Bradley & Robbie Douglas) this match was all out and probably within the 2 best matches of the night. Rocker & Motley put BLS to the test, which surprisingly, they passed, for a short time. BLS quickly grew tired of taking a beating and resorted to double teaming taking the heat on Rocker. after several minutes went by, Rocker got the tag into Motley Cruz, who came in and cleaned house, giving BLS something else to complain about. In the end, it was Motley pinning Robbie giving BLS their first official loss in NBW.

"Real Deal" Tim Edwards beat "Southern Outlaw" Kilo in a "Fans Bring The Weapons Match" to become the new NBW Heavyweight Champion.
this match went all over the building, just like the last "FBTW", and believe me, the fans brought some weapons. Kilo started off dragging Edwards thru the crowd and hitting with everything the fans would hand out to him, until Edwards cut him off and gave Kilo a snakeyes on a wooden banister at the back of the building causing Kilo to become busted open. Edwards then drug the "Southern Outlaw" thru the crowd, working his way back to the ring, where Edwards started digging under the ring and found some of the goodies used in the hardcore match earlier in the night. Edwards brought out the board again, along with a chair and a couple of signs. Edwards set the board up in the corner and went to whip Kilo in, but Kilo reversed it and sent Edwards crashing thru it. It finally broke! Kilo went to whip Edwards off but it was reversed and when Kilo came back Edwards caught him with "REDRUM" for a double down. Edwards went to cover Kilo and got a 2 count. Nobody has ever kicked out of Edwards' finisher before....until now. Back to the floor again using more of the crowds bringings. They used an old mans cane, a woman's shoe and whatever they could get to try and secure an upper hand before it was back to the ring. Edwards had things going his way as he sent Kilo into the corner and went for a bug avalanche, but missed. Kilo caught him coming out with a spinning heel kick. By this time, Mark Justice made his way out to ringside as Kilo was headed to the top rope to deliver his signature frogsplash, Justice grabbed Kilo's daughter, who was at ringside cheering on her dad, by the hair which stopped Kilo in his tracks. Security had to restrain Kilo's wife Auburn and even his mother who was there as well. Kilo went outside the ring after Justice, who drug Kilo's daughter into the ring where Kilo followed. Edwards caught Kilo with "REDRUM" again as he was getting into the ring and became the new NBW Heavyweight champion. After the pin, Justice let the little girl go and Justice slithered his way out of the ring. Tank came out and tried to get Auburn and Kilo's mom calmed down and helped Kilo's daughter find her way back to her mother. As Edwards celebrated his tainted victory, Justice stuck around to give a few words to Kilo. Justice told Kilo that he was not after his belt, he proved that, but what he was after was Kilo's blood and his career. Kilo got the mic and told Justice "You can take whatever you want from me. My money, my title, even my life, but you never lay your damn hands on one of my kids!" "You made it personal you son of a bitch! You never touch one of my kids!" Kilo told Justice that he wasn't worried about that damn belt, he wanted Justice's ass and begged him to get in the ring. As NBW Security got in front of Justice, Kilo told Justice that he didn't have to wait for Mark to come to him, Kilo said I'll come get your sorry ass! Justice left as security stopped Kilo, who then went to check on his family.

Notes: Around 80 paying with a gate close to $500 with over 100 in the building with kids and give-a-ways.
Match of the night had to be Rocker & Motley/BLS, with the Main Event being very good & the Tank/Justice match.
Biggest pop of the night: Motley Cruz, Kilo & Tank
Most Heat: Justice/Edwards hands down
Rod Dent no showed. This was Treat & Cannons last night as they have taken bookings elsewhere.
NBW's Next Big Show will be their 1 Year Anniversary Show entitled LEGACY, September 22ND. Polls are now open on their website for Fans Choice Awards with several different categories. You can go there by visiting http://www.newbloodwrestling.net/ and visiting the "Fans Choice Awards" page.

Memphis Wrestling 10 Years Ago

USWA: It was pretty much a done deal that from September, the Saturday morning tv show would be moved to a Saturday night midnight timeslot. The current tv ratings for the morning show had been the lowest in the history of the show, even though the show was still doing a 5.7 rating and winning its’ timeslot…… In an update on a story in last week’s issue, Dave Meltzer wrote, “It now appears that Glen Jacobs will end up playing Kane in the WWF. During the past week, WWF called Jacobs, who held the USWA title, back presumably for this new role. USWA officials weren’t aware this was going to happen and Jacobs left the territory still as the champion.”

There was talk that they would put another wrestler under the Doomsday mask (Johnny Rotten was the leading contender) and pretend it was still Jacobs…… Billy Travis was fired for a bunch of no-shows…… JC Ice was out of action with an ankle injury, and on the Saturday morning show, introduced his temporary replacement and Wolfie D’s new PG-13 tag team partner, PG-187, who was P.J. Walker (later Justin Credible)…….. Paul Diamond was teasing a heel turn….. Lance Russell said that Tommy Dreamer had sent in a video talking about Jerry Lawler, but that they weren’t going to play it because of Dreamer’s bad language…… Rod Price debuted, and was set to feud with the Fake Razor Ramon.

RassleResults: Lawler with OVW at Six Flags, Louisville, KY - 7.27.07

Here is a brief report on a very waterlogged event.

Fans stood in line in a gentle rain for hours to attend the event at Six Flags and the chance to meet Jerry the King Lawler. OVW Fan Club members had the chance to meet both Lawler and Cena. I got to meet Cena who was extremely nice and made every fan feel appreciated. Due to the long line to see the King, I didn't get to see him.

Despite the bad weather, the attendance was standing room only.

First match was a Diva scramble match with nine OVW divas which was won by Beth Phoenix who got the pin on Nattie Neidhart.

Second match was TJ Dalton and Jamin Olivencia facing the New Generation Hart Foundation Harry Smith and Teddy Hart with Nattie Neidheart. The New Hart Foundation won that one as the rain started to get worse.Visibility at the matchs from ringside was bad due to many fans moving their chairs into groups closer to the front, staying on their feet and making it very difficult to see what was happening, despite the best efforts of the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom security. This was unfortunate and the first time that I've attended an OVW event with this problem. Blame it on the weather I guess.

As the rain continued to get harder, John Cena faced Shawn Spears. Cena won the match with a very wet FU in the middle of the ring.

Jerry Lawler then faced KC James who came to the ring with Kassidy James, and their managers Kenny "the Starmaker" Bolin and Mini B. The match stipulations were changed at the start to a no disqualification match, so that the King could legally use his infamous piledriver. After a hard match with many slips caused by the soggy conditions, Lawler landed a piledriver on KC for the win and clobbered Kenny Bolin with his briefcase and a soggy punch on Mini B for good measure. The show was then stopped due to worsening weather conditions.

TIWF TV REVIEW 7.26.07 by The Rambling Critic and his friend Sherman

Dude, I and Sherman just watched one of the worst wrestling shows ever allowed to be put on TV. We watched TIWF....I know...WHY? Well we were curious...it was like old ECW in that we had to stay up until 1:00 to watch it but lacked ALL the GOOD. As for the attendance figures they are giving out....BULLSHIT!!!! There were MAYBE 25 people in that place. First match was Moondog Rex vs Kraven Hunter in a Moondog Rules Match. Guess what....there were no foreign objects.....no chairs, no vacuums, no chains, no nothing, not even the bone...until after the match which ended with Rex going over clean with a weird submission. Kraven SUCKED. The next bout saw AC Havoc take on Tojo Yamamoto Jr. Tojo looked Mexican and in fact had a Mexican lady valet named Diabla....go figure. The ref turned his back and looked at a fan for three seconds just because Tojo told him to. Out of 5 stars I give this match a negative 2. Spyder vs Showstopper....oh If only they all could have been this good. Match went straight to heat with no shine...then double down...then heat...then shine...then heat...then as Spyder has beat the crap outta Showstopper the entire match he for no reason at all pulls out a chain and hits him for the pin. WTF? Actually this was my pick for MOTN, but Sherman disagreed....Next was "Lawaman" Williams (Yes they misspelled his name on the screen) vs JR Rich. Finish saw Lawman take 20 shots to the head and then strongman comeback with a finisher that was a combination of a stunner and RKO....but it wasn't supposed to be a combination...JR just didn't know how to take a stunner. MAIN EVENT....PK Ripper and Weasel vs Big BOB and Wildside, BOB sold like hell for the mighty PK but Weasel's best couldn't even budge him. Bob went down to a Ripper dropkick but it took weasel 3 clotheslines (one from the 2nd rope and a drop kick to get him down) PK RULZ!!! Finish saw Jon Seymore come out and have Wildside and Randy arrested while Bob took a senton splash from Weasel and an Alabama Jam off the 2nd rope from PK. PK pins him. His streak is still alive!! HORRIBLE SHOW. Another thing that we found funny. They did the show with a host, Jon Seymore. They filmed it at JEA E+6 Studios. Seymore looked like he was reading the entire time and his guest host was Wildside....IN FULL WRESTLING OUTFIT. I mean, he was sitting behind a desk....but for that he needed to have on elbow and knee pads? BTW, they have NO sponsors. It’s just a hour straight through with two breaks for JEA Clips. Seymore was bad, really bad. Wildside was 50 times better than Seymore....but I still don't know why he wore his gear. Right now ANY other company could come and take that spot on TV. ANY. It was that bad. What’s sad is that they are sitting on a goldmine if they would only learn HOW to wrestle and learn basic match psychology. The announcer JC was annoying as hell. He was the heel announcer YET he put down the heels. Figure that one out.

----Anybody watch the TLCW or NBW TV on a regular basis?? If so, please contact me for posting on the site.

Steroid Issue NOT Going Away

----As I had stated many times during the coverage of Chris Benoit, the steroid issue or controversy is just not going to go away this time. If the government gets into this like they did with baseball and there are plenty of ex-wrestlers out there that are ready to grind their axes – this is just going to get worse. There are probably at least a dozen “Jose Consecos” that I can name right now that are ready to step up and tell their story – what roids they did and who shot them up with them.

----Vince McMahon apparently had a meeting in the last few weeks where he told the boys – if you are on something – get off of it!! Will he be taking his own advice?? Will he force others – some of the top names like HHH to be drug free?? I know this is a horrible question to ask, but can this business ever be COMPLETELY drug free?? Is the NFL, NBA or MLB COMPLETELY drug free? Society is not drug free, so to assume that we can make wrestling drug free would be a joke.

----I want to state something that it seems that every news media is really screwing up on – Vince McMahon, WWE and STERIODS was not the cause of Chris Benoit’s death. Benoit went completely nuts and killed his family and himself.

----If someone said the cause of wrestlers dying was because of steroids, then they would probably not be 100 % right either. But, for just a moment look at just the facts –

*62 major league wrestlers have died in the last 10 years before the age of 50.
*Of this list, 37 were known to be regular steroid users.
*37 of them also had issues with painkillers or recreational drugs.
*13% heart attacks
*8% suicides

----Combine the travel, the steroids, the painkillers and little weed and crack rock ever now and then – there is a problem. No other major organization – not even the movie industry have this kind of death rate.

----My gut feeling on all of this [and this is if the government does get involved] is that the next 3 years will see this business evolve into something totally different than what we see on TV today. Will Vince try to call for the pure athletic style and not worry about the bodies?? Or will he go back to the big gimmicks style where the body is not even an issue?? Or what if he just goes totally in another direction and the actually wrestling becomes more secondary than it is now – we get 15 minutes of wrestling and 105 minutes of soap opera. Finally, will the fans continue to watch the superheroes when they look just like you and me??

Thanks to Wrestling Observer Newsletter for stats.

"Too Cool" Headed to TNA??

----TNA has talked with Rikishi about doing a tag team with Brian Lawler. I had also heard rumors that Scotty Garland [Scotty Too Hotty] and Brian have also took some dates. Dave Meltzer commented in his July 19,2007 issue of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, "The least they could do is use Scot Garland, since he's a free agent, because Brian Lawler was terrible five years ago when they tried to push him." Well, that WAS give five years ago, and the best I can tell, Brian has improved in the attitude department and his work has been good. Just as good as the other two - Rikishi/Scotty. If I was TNA I would pick up all three of them.

Stamford....we have a problem by Gene Jackson

McMahon asked by congressional committee to hand over records

Two congressmen responsible for conducting steroid hearings into Major League Baseball have requested that Vince McMahon, the head of World Wrestling Entertainment, provide records pertaining to the WWE's testing policies.

In a three-page letter dated Friday, Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Tom Davis, its ranking minority member, asked McMahon to provide a series of documents intended to give the committee and its investigation a detailed look at WWE's drug-testing policy, including information about the results of performance-enhancing drug tests on pro wrestlers.

"The tragic deaths of World Wrestling Entertainment star Chris Benoit and his family have raised questions about reports of widespread use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by professional wrestlers," the congressmen wrote.

"These allegations -- which include first-hand reports of steroid use by prominent former wrestlers -- have swirled around the WWE for over a decade. Investigations by journalists have described a culture of performance-enhancing drug use in professional wrestling, high fatality rates among young professional wrestlers, and an inability or unwillingness of WWE to address these problems."

The letter from Waxman and Davis described WWE wrestlers as "multimedia stars that have an influence on the behavior and attitudes of the nation's youth."

"WWE has a responsibility to do everything possible to eliminate the use of performance-enhancing drugs -- or the perception of such use -- by its wrestlers."

The records request is wide ranging, and parallels what was asked of Major League Baseball. It seeks a list of drugs covered by its policies; the entity that conducts its drug testing; the number of tests it conducts annually; the protocols followed after a positive test; and the procedures for awarding exemptions.

It also wants hard figures about the number of tests that the WWE conducts each year; the numbers of wrestlers tested; positive results for each specific drug; and the number of positive tests for which wrestlers were penalized.

In an attempt to investigate the WWE's reaction to past scandals, the committee is also seeking "the results of any investigations prepared [by the company] regarding the deaths, injuries, or illnesses of current or former professional wrestlers that may have been related to the use of steroids."

It adds to the list "all communications between [the company] and outside entities including communications with health care professionals or law enforcement authorities, regarding allegations of drug use by wrestlers."
