Show Was Canceled!!

----The ring never arrived and the show was canceled about 8:30 PM. They were going to use the RWL ring, but the trailer was NOT stable enough to drive from Newbern to Selmer. They were told this early today and could not get anything done. Have you guys heard of UHAUL?? I was told there were 50 to 60 people there to see the show.

----There is a whole major back story to all this as I got a note earlier today that said when talking about the Chikara guys no-showing, "a week ago I saw on some of the guys MySpace pages that they were booked in PA on Friday night and in NY on Sunday night." It makes you wonder if SIE knew ahead of time that the Chikara guys were not coming or not??

----I will continue to report on this if anymore info comes in.

----This whole thing reminds me of the story that Brandon Baxter sent in early last year and that is featured in Yearbook 2007 - CLICK HERE - to read it!!

No Ring In Selmer!!!

----As of 7:30 PM, SIE did not have a ring for their show. I can not confirm whether they canceled it yet or not, but I will report as soon as I know something.

----"In Case You Missed It" is a new weekly feature posted Saturday afternoons on RRO. It will give you a review of the past week by just clicking the link. Inspired by one of my favorite VH1 TV shows - "Best Week Ever".

Selmer Draws 300+!!!

----Memphis Wrestling stars headlined by Kevin White with Sue Young/Garry White vs Jerry Lawler was seen in front of 300+ fans last night in Selmer, TN. The show came off as a big success with fans, workers and promoters going home happy. I should have full results posted sometime later tonight or tomorrow.

Chikara No Shows!!! Selmer Show Still On!!

----I find it interesting that being the site that helped promote this show and give them time on the radio plugging them that I have to go to ANOTHER site [Trent's board] to find out about Chikara canceling. I apologize to all the readers of the site that planned to go to this show due to Chikara guys being advertised. SIE and RRO were in an advertising agreement and I can not control what my sponsors do. I am glad that I decided to not attend the show, but I am sorry that I missed the Memphis Wrestling show last night.

SIE promoter Shawn Reed has asked me to post on his behalf with news that unforeseen circumstances have led to the wrestlers visiting from Chikara Pro Wrestling being unable to appear at either last nights show in Newbern, TN and tonight's show in Selmer, TN. SIE apologizes for this disappointment, but it will definitely be putting on a great show for the fans tonight despite this. Additionally, SIE intends to bring in the guys from Chikara to its next show, which will hopefully be announced very soon.

Just to reiterate, the show is definitely still happening tonight, so come on out not just to support local wrestling, but also to see a great show.

A Piece of My Mind June 21st, 2008 by "The Big Cheese" Sal Corrente

I understand that by the end of the month two long time and well respected WWE employees Bob Collins and Ed Kaufman will be leaving the company. I do not remember meeting either of these gentleman but the people I know who are aware of these people find them to be outstanding and competent people. One has to wonder if this is a message that things are not great in the WWE offices. If not why let valuable people like this leave if they want to move on why is that? It could mean nothing but one has to think. I couldn’t believe it when Ed Cohen who helped give me my start in the business left; he was with the company since it was in South Yarmouth, MA. These people helped make a strong foundation for a company. I am aware that all things have a begin date and an end date but sometimes the end dates come prematurely.

I can remember years ago watching the WWF week in and week out. I can remember once a year you would see Fred Blassie’s men go to the ring but without him. I don’t know if he was on vacation or it was just an angle to keep him off TV. It was always said that he was on a world tour to find new talent. I think that it’s time that Vince did the same thing. Somewhere out there has to be the next Rock or Stone Cold or Hulk or Bruno Sammartino at this point I might take the next Bob Backlund.

How long can a person work at the same job without a break? How do you get a fresh perspective when you’re in so deep you can’t see the light of day? What about Vince and Johnny Ace running around the country or better yet the world and trying to find that diamond in the rough. It sure isn’t happening in the developmental territory. It’s just a thought but if the mountain isn’t coming to you why not try and go to the mountain.

If you are going to give away the kind of money Vince is giving away each week. Why not give away $1.000.000.00 dollars to one person. In today’s day and age the kind of money being given away you can get from going on some game show and answering a few questions. I bet the WWE could have gotten a lot more main stream publicity from using this money differently. I am not saying the money give away is a bad thing but I think that the whole deal was miscalculated and not executed as well as it could have been for all involved.

Doesn’t TNA appear to be quietly making their move? I sense that things are looking up for TNA. If they can find momentum and embrace it they could be on their way to achieving their goal.

The picture in this article was taken at a spot show in NY before the Samoans went to the ring. It’s Afa in the picture with me. If I remember correctly they were going around with The Invaders (Jose Gonzalez and Johnny Rivera) at the time. The shirt I am wearing was given to me personally by Vince McMahon. I had been wearing a shirt from Pro Wrestling Illustrated (Apter Mags) and Vince had just barred all of them and anyone else from the buildings. He insisted I take off my shirt and I said I didn’t have any other he instructed the concession guys to give me one of the ones they were selling. It started way back then building the brand.

This has been a piece of my mind

Update!!

----The KY promoter that suspended Bobby Eaton and Ricky Morton is Darrel Fugate. He has ran 3 or 4 shows a year for years. The guys he uses only work for him. So he has a guy there who has been in the business for 10 years and had 40 matches. He also is the promoter that had Tracy Smothers tested.

----As mentioned on www.rroradio.com I will not be attending either show this weekend in Selmer, TN. Nothing against those guys as "real life" changed my plans for me. If anyone is in the area, please go out a support local wrestling!!

"Shooting The Shiznit" is Ready!!

----Brian Tramel and Brian Thompson were joined first by SIE promoter Shawn Reed. "Nature Boy" Kevin White joins them next for 30 minutes talking about this weekend and wrestling in general. Ricky Morton joined them for final minutes talking about being suspended by KY commission.

Scotty Atomic def. Kole Layton King via pinfall after a Shining Wizard kick.

"Showtime Kid" Jim Miller def. "The Prodigy" Shane Andrews via pinfall after a spear in what some would call an upset. Miller worked on Shane's ribs throughout the match, Shane seemed to have thigns back under control when he went for a Frog Splash but missed and damaged his ribs even more. Andrews made it to the corner where he got checked on by the referees and security and eventually Jim Miller. But Jim cheap-shotted Shane's ribs with knees and kicks until Shane turned around into the spear.

Trooper T def. the Krypt Keeper after sling shotting himself over the ropes and over the Krypt Keeper into a sunset flip.

Before the match began Beau complained about the Spur screwing him over in matches lately until Spur relented to let AJ Gann call the match. For the second week in a row Jason Maxx was hard way. Last week was a kick from Adkins this week a broken nose from a forarm from James.

Originally Beau James and Wayne Adkins beat DRI in the tag team title match as James had Jason Maxx pinned and Willie had Wayne pinned but referee AJ only saw Beau. The the Spur reversed the decision after finding the weapon Beau used on Jason and disqualified Beau and Wayne.

Donovan Daniels & The RIP def. Keith Knox and Jeff Anderson as Donovan got Keith in an inside cradle after RIP hit Keith in the back with his chair.

Edward Idol came out with some paperwork saying if Robbie Race punched him he would be disqualified and suspended for a week. Edward provoked Robbie to punch him throughout the match which frustrated Robbie until he started slapping Edward instead, Idol had a concealed object he used throughout the match to hit Robbie with. But Idol went for one too many and Robbie caught him and set him up for the Dead End until seeing the object in Edward's hand and took it and blasted Edward causing the disqualification on himself.

Sigmon made Shane Williams in the main event as he had a piece of wood the King had brought in earlier and was jabbing it into Sigmon's forehead until Siggy got control of it and was positioning it to jab Shane in the eye. Match started out in the crowd and went all around ringside. Both men tried to make each other say "I QUIT" with various choking holds, belt shots to each other and also with the King trying to make Sigmon quit to the Boston Crab throughout the match and with Sigmon using several arm bars and arm-locks.

After the match Beau James & Wayne Adkins came out and attacked Sigmon and the Spur with Shane Williams joining in after he recovered even Stan Anderson (TV Announcer)& AJ Gann were attacked at ringside with the Williams saying he was the champion and James & Adkins saying they their tag team titles. Wayne was about to punch Ericules at ringside but Eric nailed him first and grabbed a belt. After that all 3 men retreated to the locker room.

Notes: 95 in the building...EWP is on CTV every Sat. afternoon at 1:30 ...The matches with Adkins and James vs. DRI gets stiffer each week.... Couple fans tried to get in the ring to save Spur when James was pounding on him.... Sigmon as champion as been a good thing he has had good matches with all. His matches with Williams are the best match up.

New Wrestling TV Show Announced!!

----Kevin White just announced on “Shooting the Shiznit” that wrestling returns sometimes after July on TV in Jackson, TN. The show will be called either Hub City Wrestling, Jackson Championship Wrestling, or Southern Wrestling Superstars. It will air on E+TV6 and also Fox’s Jackson Affiliate. The show will be a taped show inside a “state of the art” TV studio. I will have more details as they become available.

Show Tonight!!

Coach's Corner - "Spot Monkeys, Stars, TV Shows, Perception and Opportunity"

----"Sons of the South" [Chris Styles/Josh Matthews] vs Anton LeVeigh/Brandon Barbwire worked the All Pro show this weekend and as usual when these four guys go out, they try their best to put on a great show for the fans. I actually think they try to hard sometimes in the sense of forgetting to do just the basics. The All Pro show was criticized by most people people in the wrestling biz I talked with. It was well received by the "Thunder on the Water" crew and Kenny and crew will be invited back. I heard that Ken Wayne had a bitch session with these guys and I hope it does help them out. I wrote Ken a note and he sent the following "It wasn't a bitch session, Anton and Brandon ask me to watch their match and critique it, so I did. The other guys I invited to listen and I told them it wasn't going to be pretty, and they chose to listen and be critiqued. All I did was tell the truth and I guess sometimes the truth can be brutal, but I didn't intend it to be. I didn't tell them anything I haven’t told my guys, in fact I was probably nicer to them than I am to my guys...lol. They didn't seem offended or anything like that, they seemed to listen, understand and genuinely appreciate it. I just hope some of it takes. " Me too bro, because unlike a lot of people think - I do think all four of these guys have talent - they just got learn the three "w's" - when, what and where to improve their matches. To their credit, one of the guys did call and thank Ken. I am just hoping they take it all to heart.

----It is funny how the workers may pe other workers different than say I do or the casual fans. If you are worker and work a guy that gives you a total different "look" at him. I had a talk with "The Golden Boy" Greg Anthony the other day after the last "Coach's Corner". His opinion of two guys was totally different, because he has had the chance to work both guys. Everyone has to understand that I only see a small "window" of what you guys do week after week. There is no way I can go to every show and see every guy work - week after week. What I see and what I think - is much like a "first impression" and can sometimes not represent how a guy might work - week after week. If I attend show after show and the same workers are the same guys that have good matches. Then, those are the guys that get most of my praise and it has nothing to do how it would feel in the ring against those guys. Guys like Stan Lee, TGB, Flash Flanagan and Derrick King - they have a good match almost every time they step in a ring. I and the guys that work them would agree on that - they are the best workers in this area. Guys that have worked Hulk Hogan in the past have said how easy it was to work him and would consider him a good worker. He did very little - so not much had to be done to keep up with him. Tracey Smothers, who TGB recently worked two nights in a row, would be considered a great worker from the "boys" point of view, but would have a hard time convincing people different - he has always been used as a undercard guy and that is how fans see him. Guys like Eddy Guerrero and Chris Benoit both fell in that category where not only the fans knew they were great workers, but the boys were dying to work them too.

----Speaking of my perception of guys and their matches, I do have to make a point about my star system. The star system was invented by Jim Cornette and a guy named Norm Dooley. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter adopted it and has used it for years. When I started this site, my intention was being a "kayfabe" insiders site similar to WON - but just on the Memphis Wrestling area. I used all the terminology of a "smart site" along with things that were actually said by local guys - "inside" terms or just call them what you want. The star system for me is mainly a "personal enjoyment". That includes good psychology, fans into the match and execution of the moves. In Randy Hales' "Cheap Heat Radio" interview, he made it a point to say that the site is just the opinion of one guy. Good point, but I believe that after all this time that I spent around the business and working inside the business that when I give my impression of a match it holds a little more merit that say, "Joe Blow" that just started a site. It is also ironic that some matches that I enjoy so much - the guys actually in the bout are disappointed. This seems to hold true more when it is just a big brawl - as a good worker does not get to feel what is going on with the fans and they don't see it as actually working. Also please take note that a match featuring say Samoa Joe vs Kurt Angle might get a [****] rating and I give one of the local matches the same rating. Does it mean it was good as the Angle/Joe bout?? No it does not - you just have to put everything in perspective of the level of talent comparable to the level of talent in the "big time". I am an independent Memphis Wrestling guy and the stars are all above that level of work.

----The buzz and rumors are rabid right now about new TV wrestling shows. I am hearing things coming from all directions. Some of it is true and some of it has not been approved yet. Where does this put all the local talent?? If every thing falls into place, then the last quarter of the year is going to be a fun time for the workers and fans in this area. There is the potiental of two wrestling shows airing in Tennessee featuring some of the same talent. The talent that looks like will end up on both shows are Kevin White, Derrick King, Brian Christopher and Jerry Lawler. Where does this leave guys like Johnny Dotson and "Too Kool 2" [Flex/Tim Grind]?? I have no idea. Brian C has been mentioned as helping with booking for both TV shows?? That just seems strange to me from a guy that has the track record he does with dealing with people. Guys like DK and White or even bring in a guy like Ken Wayne to help seem to be tons better. Here is my biggest wish when it comes to this two shows - they get an announcing team that calls the matches. Brian Thompson and Michael Ward are two the best in this area - contact them and work out a deal - they can help get your talent over, instead of getting themselves over like that clown Corey Maclin. Also, please try to give Kevin White vs DK or Stan Lee a 20 minute match on TV!!

-----Dustin Starr and I don't always agree. He has done things in this business that I would never do. Whether you like him or not, he has also done things in this business that many just dream about. He recently blogged on "When Opportunity Knocks" and I thought it was a great read. There are so many guys out there that WANT it so BAD and then there are guys that think they just DESERVED IT. I have been told two to three names of guys [and I am not posting them - because I would have had to be on the other end of a phone conversation to confirm this] that just had the opportunity to do the TNA security gig, but either refused or just acted like they didn't have the time. What?? If you decided you were too important to work security for TNA and be seen on a PPV and backstage in front of a lot of important people - then you DESERVE NOTHING. I hope you NEVER get a break in this business - I hope it goes to a guy that works his ass off trying to make something of himself. Thumbs up to all the guys that did the TNA show - thanks for being smart and not letting an opportunity pass you by.

RassleResults: UWA Seymour,TN 6.17.08 - Matt Boyce Wins UWA Title!!

-The show started off wild. Chris Dalton came straight out and got on the microphone. He acknowledged Tyson Daly and Sgt. Awol in the crowd.. He asked "Who's the pitcher and who's the catcher?" He called referred to Awol as "Sgt. Asshole" and called him and Tyson a bunch of faggots. He said Awol has to be a fag b/c he was loving that pink wig over at EWP. Dalton's shoot continued as Awol and Tyson came toward the yellow line, Chris and Awol got face to face and a real fight broke out between the 2. (This was one of the most intense moments to ever happen at the UWA as they were sluggin it out all over the floor. Awol trashed the UWA as security dragged him out of the building. Chris Dalton got back in the ring pissed off and announced that UWA has a big event coming up Tuesday Night July 8, No Return 2008. He laid out an open challenge to Sgt Awol and his little buddy Tyson Daly for a real life fight and wondered if he'd actually be man enough to show up and do it. No Referees, No Pinfall, No security, just a real fight until no one can get up.

-Conner Cruze def. Jason Dalton and Billy Marshall by Countout (Marshall and Dalton put some MASSIVE chops on Cruze during the match, they got into it though outside the ring which led to the countout victory for Cruze)

*In attendance was Boss and Jerry Lee

-Aaron Cross def. Justin Karma (At the end of the match, Cross and Karma started playing paper, rock, scissors to see who had to lay down since they couldn't beat each other, Karma lost and let Aaron pin him. Aaron and Karma then celebrated and formed an alliance w/ each other.

-Mike Ogle def. Lonnie Kialoha

(There was more real life drama outside during the intermission as Sgt. Awol and Chris Dalton got into another fight. Several fans called the cops.)

-Alex Shepard def. Travis Sawyer (w/ Tony Lacassio)

-UWA Tag Team Champion Adam Armor def. Primetime Allen Shepard

-Matt Boyce def. UWA World Heavyweight Champion Shawn Shultz in a "Fans Bring the Straps" Match to Win the title!

Correction!!

----This photo has nothing to do with the correction. LOL This was sent in by John Steele and was take at the Ken Wayne School of Wrestling. It is Greg King JR taking a bump over the top rope.

----Corrections have been made to the MAW report as sent in by KC Gold. Gold added to his note, "Evidently somebody got drunk at the show & gave you a "as best I remember" version of the show." LOL Ok, not sure who was drunk, but we have corrected the mistakes along with the attendance - CLICK HERE!!

RassleResults: RWA Jonesboro, AR 6.14.08 - Burton First RWA Champion!!

----Biscuit beat The Offical...Crazy Luke Graham JR beat Zac Richards...Silas beat PP3 & JD Carey...Ali Stevens beat Zane Richards...Ron Rage/Cody Murdock vs "Natural Born Players" [Southside Brawler/Pimptactular] - No contest...Battle Royal for RWA Title - Rik Burton wins!!

Frank Martin came out in the beginning and told the crowd that the Royal Wrestling Alliance is presenting the wrestling at 4th in the forest. Also he reminded the crowd that on July the 5th "Dr Death" Steve Williams will be in action at the Kings Sportatorium. His announcements were interpreted by "Classy" Meltin Massy and Zane Richards. Massy informed Martin that the Dog Collar match against Ali Stevens would not happen because Zane had a pulled muscle in his neck. Ali Stevens came out and asked Massy if a good old fashion wrestling match would do. Massy replied that it would. Ali then asked the crowd what they would do if one of their children was whinnying all the time like Zane and Massy? Ali answered his own question and said,"They would whoop their butts" So they made the match a fans strap match. The crowd really liked this idea.

The Official made his way out and said he has wrestled everyone that Martin had chose for him. He wanted to pick his opponent. He said he wanted someone just like him. He picked another Official, Biscuit. Biscuit agreed to it and asked Martin to be the ref and Martin agreed. The Official had the match well in hand, he hit his finisher "The Count Out" but instead of covering Biscuit The Official played to the crowd. Martin was telling him to cover Biscuit and the Official bent over to taunt biscuit and Biscuit rolled him up in a small package and pinned him. The crowd really liked this match.

Ali Stevens and Zane Richards had a great match and Zane gave the lumberjacks plenty of opportunity to hit him with the belts. Much to Zane's credit unlike most workers who will only go out a couple of times to let the fans hit them. Zane got out on all 4 sides at least twice and that made the fans really happy but Zane had marks all over his back.

Ron Rage choose Big Rig Cody Murdock as his partner for this match. He explained to the crowd after the match that last week he could not get to the arena because he had 4 flat tires. Now his partner could not make it and he warned the "Natural Born Players" that there is more than one or two members of P.O.B. and one of them is the ruler of the world and has the nickname of Psycho. Wonder who he is talking about? LOL. Things could really change in the RWA in the weeks to come.

Rik Burton did in fact win the Battle Royal and is now the RWA Heavyweight Champion. Martin presented the Belt to Rik and told him to have a good time and party all week. Next week Burton would face Rodney Mack and the title would be on the line.

----About a 100 in the crowd....Local MMA promoter Max Bishop had a "Fight Night" at Jonesboro High Gym and two softball tourney was in town. All in all it was a good night and the fans kept cool in the AC...Not surprising to see Burton with the belt, since he is the booker.

Ricky Morton Joins RRO Radio Tomorrow Night!!

----Ricky Morton is slated to join Brian Tramel and Brian Thompson after the Kevin White segment. He will be talking about getting suspended by the Kentuckey Atheltic Commission.

RassleResults: MAW Memphis, TN 6.15.08

Baron Makalvain beat Marcus O'Neal

Jason Richards beat Carnage Antwane

"Hotrod" Rodney Howard, holding the MAW Heavyweight Title, comes out with Austin Lane & Scott Fury with Big Country. Hotrod calls out Derrick King and awards him with the MAW Championship Belt as a belated birthday & father's day present & DK declared himself the champ. But he is not. It was said that night there will be a tournament in the near future to crown a new champ now that the belt has been returned, so to speak. When the lights went off the first time Armageddon appeared in the balcony. When they went off the second time he and KC Gold appeared on the stage. And the last time they went out Morton & Lexx appeared in the ring. DK threw the belt at Lexx & Morton in his haste to get away as they cleared the ring.

The Hardcore Match between Armageddon & Big Country was a no contest after these two big men fought all through the New Daisy, then Armageddon chased Ref Willie B out of the building and down Beale.

Dre Black scored a pinfall over "The Hotstepper" Danny B Good making the tied up at one victory a piece. This should be settled at the Next MAW show.

Austin Lane & Scott Fury beat "201"Chris Lexx & The Crime to win the MAW Tag Team Titles thanks to a superkick from the interfering Derrick King.

Derrick "Greater Than Great" King beat "Juicy" Johnny Morton with help from special Referee "Magnificent" Reno Diamond and stole the MAW Heavyweight Title back. He is not the champion though.

KC Gold comes out after the match and tells Derrick King that he and Reno would face Johnny Morton & a TNA star in a tag match at the next show.

----55 in attendance.

Two Memphis Legends Suspended!!

----I found this interesting that a promoter would go to these measures, but it all goes back to the false advertising subject we have covered on this site for a few weeks. It will be interesting to see what Morton or Eaton has to say about this.

GERWECK.NET has just learned that at its meeting earlier today, The Kentucky Boxng and Wrestling Authority suspended wrestlers Ricky Morton and Bobby Eaton for no-showing a Kentucky promoter. The pair were scheduled to appear at a show, but evidently reneged and worked the NWA reunion show in Georgia instead. They are now suspended until they appear before the Board.

"What Memphis Watches" By Ron Guidry

This is the 7th week of my reports and this week’s ratings have been the strongest set of ratings so far. The 3 major shows all improved their ratings from last week. I was most surprised by TNA’s Impact. Impact upped its rating this week by 2/10ths of a point. While that may not seem like much, it’s huge considering the fact that it was up against Game 3 of the NBA Finals ( 11.4, 17 share ). Impact had some great wrestling on the show with the World X Cup preview matches. Memphis fans love and appreciate good wrestling and it showed this week with Impact holding their good rating.

Smackdown was the 2nd most watched show in primetime last Friday night. Smackdown is always good for some good wrestling matches which explains why it draws so well in Memphis. Being on free TV doesn’t hurt either. Smackdown is a very strong show for CW30. It pulls better numbers than CW30 and ABC-24’s newscasts (30 and 24 are sister stations). I can’t imagine the sales folks at CW30 are too happy that SD will be moving stations this fall.

RAW’s numbers showed the most improvement from last week. I guess Memphis realized that Vince was really giving away money and decided to watch. RAW was up in the final rating almost a point and a half. Even the national rating was up this week. It will be interesting to see next week when Vince gives away another million bucks to see if the ratings keep going up.

One thing I’m going to keep my eye on over the summer months is to see if these strong numbers will keep up over the next 2.5 months. Traditionally, the summer months are a slow time for wrestling shows both live and on TV alike but I think this summer might be different. With gas prices at an all time high, people are going to be staying home, watching TV more which in turn will possibly keep these good TV ratings up. They will also probably try to find things to do, entertainment wise that are close to home which may just help wrestling shows this summer. In my opinion, wrestling shows are a great entertainment value and for the most part are very family-friendly. In these times where money is getting tight for everyone, live wrestling shows are a great entertainment bargain.

Finally, Sanford and Son and The Andy Griffith Show that now runs on Saturday night in the old Memphis Wrestling time slot continued its strong run as the “replacements” for MW. The shows drew a 3.7 [61,956 viewers] and 4.1 [68,654 viewers] respectively. Both shows drew a 6 share. Honestly, I’m amazed at how 2 shows that are over 30 years old pull numbers that well on a Saturday night.

If you have any questions or comments just email me at: rpg187@gmail.com.

Note: The ratings for RAW is listed as 2 separate hours. I will round off, to the highest number, the averages of both hours for the final rating.

Thanks and enjoy!!!

"Flashback" June 21, 1976 by Mark James

Boxer vs Wrestler - Jerry Lawler vs Rocky Johnson

32 years ago this week, Rocky Johnson showed up in Memphis , (with boxing gloves in hand.) The back story for this involved Muhammad Ali. In Japan , their top wrestler,Antonio Inoki had challenged Muhammad Ali to a wrestler vs boxer match. The match took place on June 26, 1976 with Ali getting $6 million. The match was terrible and had Anoki staying in a crab-like position (to keep from getting punched). Inoki threw a lot of kicks to Ali’s legs while Ali only threw about a dozen punches the whole fight. The 15 round match was declared a draw.

Before the Ali-Inoki match took place, it got a ton of publicity. Memphis , like most territories, always tried to do the same thing that seemed to work elsewhere, so Jerry Lawler challenged anyone, (wrestler, boxer, football players, etc.) That’s where Jarrett brought in Rocky Johnson as a boxer. Rocky had boxed before, even sparring with George Frazier, but he was 100% wrestler. He had wrestled in Texas , St. Louis , San Francisco , Florida , etc. Johnson was charismatic and got over quickly with the Memphis fans.

This first match had Lawler beating Rocky, I think with a chain or chloroform on a towel, etc. What cut the boxer-wrestler feud short was the fact that the TN State Boxing Commission got involved and made Jarrett stop the boxing angle. The reason was Rocky Johnson was not licensed to box in TN and Jerry Jarrett was not licensed to put on a boxing show in TN. All this did was get Rocky into the ring as a wrestler much quicker.

Rocky and Lawler did have a rematch or 2 (which they split.) The fans would have to wait until 1977 for Rocky and the King to get into an all out war. In the summer of 1976, the seeds for this memorable feud were planted.

RassleResults: All Pro Productions Grenada, MS 6.14.08

Eric Wayne & Greg King, Jr. defeated Kid Nickels & Matt Justice.
.
Little Guys, Inc. (Lil' Devil & Kid J) w/Uncle Felton defeated Parental Advisory ("The Studd" Scott Porteau & "Bad Attitude" Tony Dabbs).
.
Funky Freddie Feelgood defeated Tye Ratt (I think that was his name, I did not catch it when he was introduced).
.
Anton Leveigh, Brandon Barbwire, & Little Bit defeated Sons of the South (Josh Matthews & Chris Styles) and Cameron Valentine.
.
Jerry "The King" Lawler defeated Max Steel w/Hollywood Jimmy Blaylock.
.
Kamala defeated Sarge O'Reilly w/Hollywood. After the match Kamala tore Hollywood's pants off of him. They were ripped to shreds.
.
"Southern Thunder" Chris Kilgore & Candyman defeated The Asylum (Psycho & Pappy) w/Hollywood (wearing a different pair of pants, lol) by DQ.
.
Attendance was about 400.
.
Notes:
.
Opening match was a good match, although it went a little long. Crowd was into it all the way. All four guys did a very good job.
.
I have seen Parental Advisory against Little Guys a number of times. This was the best of their matches. All did a great job.
.
Funky Freddie Feelgood did a very good job. This gimmick is great. The crowd loved him. He reminds me of a cross between Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant & Dusty Rhodes.
.
Sons of the South & Cameron vs. Anton Leveigh, Brandon Barbwire, & Little Bit was not a good match. These guys worked their asses off, but there was no psychology to the match at all. It was mostly a "spot fest." The crowd, for the most part, was quiet throughout the match. Like I said, those six worked their butts off, but the match really made no sense. The beat down at the end of the match made no sense either, and went ridiculously long. I do have to compliment Little Bit on her in ring work - she did a great job. Best I have seen her do.
.
Lawler vs. Max Steele w/HJB was a good match. Good job by everybody. This was Max's first match since his back surgery. You could not tell he had even had surgery. Good match.
.
Sarge w/HJB vs. Kamala was also a good match. Funny stuff when Kamala destroyed HJB's pants. HJB had to walk to the back clutching what was left of his britches & showing his BVDs to the world, lol.
.
The main event had the potential to be a good match, but the finish was disappointing. I don't know what Felton's involvement was supposed to be, but his actions toward the end of the match really made no sense. Match ended abruptly with Asylum getting DQ'd. Disappointing finish to a show that was very good overall.
.
Show ran way too long. It was after 11:00 when we finally got out of there. Crowd started thinning out about 10:15.
.
Chris Fontaine and "Prime Time" Nick Grimes were booked for the show, but both were no shows. All Pro Promoter Kenny Valiant made it clear in no uncertain terms that neither of them need worry about returning to All Pro again.

----I am getting a much larger crowd estimate from two different sources. I am being told 500 to 600 people, so at the least they drew 400. Good job guys!! Photo is Psycho choking CandyMan - probably the best move that CandyMan did all night. LOL

RassleResults: NBW Dyerburg, TN 6.14.08

Show opened with Allen Walker and a member of the NBW Board of Directors Tim Davis. Tim said that next week he had a big announcement for the people of Dyersburg and that for the next couple of weeks he would be checking the progression of the show. Allen then called out Jeremy Moore for an interview; Moore said that before he could start he was going to call out Kilo. He told Kilo that at first he didn't understand why he had kicked him last week, but he thought about it all week long and now he knew why. Moore said it is true that he hasn't worked as hard as Kilo or as long, but he was here to gain respect of the boys and the fans and of Kilo, so he said the only way he knew to gain respect from Kilo was in the ring, so he challenged him to a match, after Kilo thought about it and asked the crowd, and they wanted it, he said it wasn't happening, because he don’t have to do anything he doesn't wanna do because it says that in his newly re-negotiated contract, but what he would do is issue an open challenge to anyone BUT Moore tonight.

As he was leaving the ring none other than Jimmy Tidwell came out to a chorus of boo's, he and Kilo locked eyes as Kilo went to the back. Tidwell said that last time he was here he had done some pretty bad things and he was here to say sorry, but he wanted to apologize to Moore in particular in front of everyone, as hesitation Moore shook Jimmy's hand as Jimmy raised Moore's hand he gave him a short arm clothesline and Mark Justice hit the ring to beat on Moore, Tidwell then put a chair in the ring and Mark was going to give him a hard justice on the chair until Crazy Train made the save, Tim Davis then said that tonight Mark wouldn't be cheapshotting Moore, but facing him one on one!

Tim Edwards and Rob Justice went to a time limit draw.

Tim Alfonzo/The Sicilian Kid beat Jon Roberts/Buckwheat after the match Biscuit fired Buckwheat.

"Dynamite" Seth Knight beat El Cuella de Rojo. After the match he said he was gunning for Motley's NBW Championship.

Kilo came out for his open challenge; his opponent was none other than...... Crazy Train! Kilo beat Crazy Train after Kilo made Crazy straddle the top rope, and he tried a superplex but Crazy pushed him off and jumped off into a superkick from Kilo. After the match Mark Justice attacked Crazy Train until Moore made the save.

Jason Matthews def Motley Cruz in a surprise upset in a non-title match, Motley then said it doesn't matter because he is still the champion!

Mark Justice def. Jeremy Moore after Moore was setting up for the Acecrusher and Jimmy distracted the ref, Kilo came to ringside and turned Moore around and slingshotted Moore's neck off the ropes and Moore turned right around into a “Hard Justice” for the 3. After the match Jimmy Tidwell said that Kilo and Mark are from here on out known as Sons of Brutality ( S.O.B. ) and they delivered 3 devestating tag team moves on Moore until Crazy ran out to save and he took a beating too. They left Moore and Crazy lying. Tim Davis said that next week it will be Moore and Train against Kilo and Mark!

----Around 80 or so in the crowd…Main Event had the most heat by far with most all the babyfaces getting good pops…Crowd was mixed on Moore at the first of the show, but by the end of the night they hated Kilo and loved Moore. Kilo also hit Addison who was ref of the Main Event… I like the acronynm, but don’t like the name “Sons of Brutality” – sounds like they were children of abuse…Tidwell is a much bigger guy than Moore, but a wrestler should never bump like that from a manager...Tag match should be fun next week with the return of Kilo/Mark Justice as a team…Here are clips of the Kilo vs Train match – a video made by Train. It looked like a pretty good match.

Jerkin' The Curtain NWA Main Event & SAW TV reviews Monday, June 16th @ 10 PM CST.

Listen into Jerkin' The Curtain this coming Monday, June 16th at 10 PM central time as Tommy Stewart and I again review and recap the NWA Main Event and SAW TV shows. These will be the reviews for the shows that will air on June 14th on the Ion network in Nashville at 8 am and noon. We'll give unbiased opinions of both shows, and declare a "winner" for the week. If you missed last weeks show, the archive is available of course, but here are the results...

Tommy Stewart:
NWA Main Event= Thumbs up
SAW= Thumbs up
Note: Tommy doesn't have a "thumbs in the middle" in his ratings, it's either thumbs up or thumbs down for him. But, he enjoyed SAW more of the two, so he picked SAW as the winner.

TVD:
NWA Main Event= Thumbs in the middle
SAW= Upper thumbs in the middle
I too picked SAW, so the winner last week was SAW. Here's hoping the folks at NWA Main Event will care enough to improve their weak production quality a bit, but I've seen no evidence of it thus far.

Larry Goodman received a copy of the newest SAW last week, so he called in during the SAW review. He gave the show a thumbs up, but has lingering concerns about the wrestling on the show, storytelling wise he thought it was thru the roof. Cya Monday night. Trent Van Drisse
