Countdown to Mayhem!!!
----Let me first say that I know nothing about the finishes or direction that TLCW is going after this show. So, when it comes to my predictions or thoughts – it is just that – MY predictions.
----One of the main focal points going into the show has been whether they can draw at the ticket prices of the big show, which are pretty much double that of a regular show?? Can they also draw for this show like they did in January with “The First Big Show Of The Year” without the two teams that had the best match on the card – [“Picture Perfect”/”Blackout Squad”]??
----This promotion took a big shot when the main event barbwire “loser leave town” match left them holding the bag when both participants – Chris O’Neal and Dustin Starr left after the match. TLCW booker Derrick King along with Flash Flanagan and Stan Lee went into overdrive and at times the promotion seemed like they were desperate with turns and angles that just screamed desperation. They have prevailed with the last 4 months being a roller coaster ride and believe it or not, lot of the readers come to this site to see what happened at TLCW on Saturday night. In that 4 month period they have had two more shows draw near the number of the January show, but have slowed down a bit the last few weeks drawing in the 130 to 150 range. But, they still have THE top drawing weekly promotion in this area.
----I look for the show to draw 300 on the high mark or around 150 low. They could have their own weekly fan base just pay more to see a show that is promising to have more “bang for your buck.” They are doing lots of advertising and it could mean more fans and could even bust open the 300 mark, which would be a major success for this group. Now let’s look at the major matches..
*Tatt2 vs Alan Steele should be real good. I have stated before that Steele is the best overall wrestler in this area. He should be able to slow Tatt2 down just to the speed he needs to be and have a fantastic match. Tatt2 has improved over the year and it could be a shining moment for him. Steele is the current NBW champion, so I don’t look him to lose, unless they got planned for Tatt2 to do a program with Steele sometime in the near future in NBW.
*Loser Leaves TLCW – Special Ref – Blaylock – Chris Lexx vs Rude. This could be real good. Lexx is being pushed as a new up and coming guy here and he is close to “breaking out”. Rude will always have a good match and could easily be in the main event. I look for them to put Lexx over with a few twists going into the finish.
*”Cruzin 4 Pain” [Motley Cruz/187] with Tasha Simone vs “Rhythm & Blues” [Brian Steele/Ike Tucker] with Rick The Stick. This is for the TIWF tag team titles and I look for a change in the belts. C4P have been champs for a while and they are pushing R&B, so there should be a change. Work will be solid here as Cruz/187 are at the top of the game. Steele is a solid worker with Ike being the weak link. All and all it should be fun.
*"Tables, Ladders, Chairs" Tommy Redneck vs Seth Knight vs Rockin' Randy. The Cruiserweight and Hardcore belt goes to the winner of this bout. Not sure if they are combining the belts or they are just wanting to give someone a push with both belts. This will be a crazy wild match with all three guys going out. I have seen Redneck and Knight both in classic brawls. Randy has turned into a solid worker and should do a good job here. I give the nod here to Randy, as Redneck and Knight don’t need anything to stay over. Randy with two belts would make him more believable.
*“Hot Topic" [Stan Lee /Derrick King]/Chris O'Neal vs "Perfect Showcase" [Dustin Starr/Maxx Corbin/Albino Rhino]. This is the bout that could steal the show if all guys have their working shoes on. O’Neal’s return got a huge pop last weekend and it should be part of the focal point of getting Starr/O’Neal in the ring together. It should not ruin the flow of the match as all guys can go. “Genocide” [Corbin/Rhino] can only be considered the weak link here because of experience, but if they can keep their mouths shut and their ears opened, they could be part of their biggest match of their career. They have the stigma of stepping in to take “Picture Perfect”’s role here, but I think they will do fine. Starr, easily the most hated man in TLCW, will be leading them and will help them get over as monsters just making him look even smarter to the fans. Lee/King are one of the top teams in this area and will easily make the match just flow. I am going with the heels here, because I am not sure this feud is over or not.
*Brian Christopher vs Greg Anthony. This is a bout that I thought I would NEVER see. Christopher/Anthony have a “history” that I don’t even think Brian remembers. Brian has been on very good behavior lately and has been putting out. Anthony is a very good solid worker and should fit in with the comedy style of Christopher. If Brian decides to wrestle, then the match could be off the charts. I will give the nod to Anthony for the win and a pin. He needs it for the “best of the best” gimmick he is doing now. It would be better if it wasn’t a screwjob, but it probably will be.
*Steel Cage Match: Fans Bring Weapons – Flash Flanagan vs Tim Grind. This is the first time for a steel cage in TLCW. I look for both guys to turn it on and do some crazy stuff. Flash is doing the “Flashamania” gimmick, which is mainly comedy, but I do not see it hurting this match or coming into play until the finish. I look for it to be very bloody and Matt Foley and Hollywood interfering. There should be a few spots off the cage and may end with a big one. Flash will “Hulk up” after taking tons of heat and will see a comeback with the finish. Grind could go from having the worst match on January show to having the best match of this show. My pick would be Flash, since this is the finale and they want to go home positive. Or they could even do a big angle after the win to set up stuff for later. Most times Steel Cage matches are the end of the feud, so I look for Grind/Flash to go into different directions after this match.

SEW or TAJJ??
----I got the following in the e-mail later yesterday and it look like SEW will not be airing tomorrow morning. The spot is owned by TAJJ. I guess everyone will have to watch at 11:30 AM tomorrow and check it out.
Memphis, Tenn., (May 17, 2007) - TAJJ Championship Wrestling returns with TAJJ Rewind this Saturday Morning at 11:30AM now filmed on location at Comcast Studios in Memphis, TN. The following programs will feature guests and the other host of the program, known around the Mid-South Area as "The Suit" Scotty C©, Randy Cresswell.

Edge Wrestles Seven Times in Four Days!!!
----I just had to post this. Edge is DA MAN!!
"It's a little different from the days of the traveling NWA World champion, but you have to give WWE World champion Edge a lot of credit as he wrestled seven times in the last four days. Saturday in Syracuse, NY, Edge and MVP teamed against Batista and Chris Benoit. On Sunday, Edge worked both White Plains, NY house shows, wrestling Batista in the afternoon and again teaming with MVP vs. Batista and Chris Benoit in another tag. On Monday, Edge worked the opener of the Smackdown house show in Reading, PA doing the same tag match. He then traveled to Raw where he did his in-ring promo and wrestled Shawn Michaels. After Raw went off the air, Edge wrestled again, facing John Cena and Randy Orton in a Three-Way. Last night at the Smackdown taping, Edge appeared in an interview segment and then worked a dark match teaming with MVP against Batista and Benoit. Quite a busy few days for him and you've got to give him a lot of respect for that work ethic. Buck Woodward and I were discussing this and we both realized that in this day and age, that has to be a record for a WWE performer."

The Ratings Are In!! Good News!!
----This week’s show rebounded from last week scoring a 3.6 [60,608 viewers] making it the second highest rated show of 2007. It follows only the 1.27.07 show, which score 4.1 [67,583 viewers.] This is good news for the company, which hasn’t been doing so well lately. This was over 15,000 viewers more than average and the biggest quarter was seen by over 20,000 more viewers than average. The only sore spot of the whole show was the third quarter, which lost more than 15,000 viewers. That quarter featured the Maclin/Koko interview at Corey’s home. It was seen though by almost 7,000 more viewers than average, so that is good.
----Why did the show lose so many viewers after the 3rd quarter?? As you know I only speculate on this, but it could have been the Corey Maclin/Koko Ware angle. They were airing it again and then were doing the interview with Maclin/Koko at Corey’s home when the TV sets were being turned off. Koko/Maclin in the past have done pretty good rating numbers, but the last big angle they did versus each other had good rating, but not good box office. Maybe the viewers are just tired of the Koko/Maclin stuff and after seeing Lawler, turned off the TV?? As I have said, I am not a big fan of promoters pushing themselves as wrestlers, but the Assassin/Sal/Corey/Koko angle has been done real well, but it is not being “sold” to the viewers.
[Corey Maclin opens with band-aid on his head from the Assassins beating him up last week. I didn't even notice he juiced. LOL"Total Protection" Mr. Hughes. He talks about Jerry Lawler pulling a no show at the FedEx Forum. He said that Lawler was scared of Hulk Hogan. He says that Lawler let the people down. Hughes beat Sam Shaw in a squash. New Nature Boy" Kevin White comes out for a short interview with "The Insane Clowns" [Bobo/Giggles] with Rashard. Clowns/White vs Jerry Lawler with Renee/Bill Dundee/Spellbinder. Rashard threw in a baseball bat, which Spell caught and used on Giggles as Lawler stuns Bobo. Lawler then pins Giggles. Not good - match was a clusterfuck.]
1st Quarter – 4.0 [67,660 viewers] [+7052 viewers}
[Lawler interview with Renee. Hughes walks out and says "I can't believe my eyes!!" Hughes says that Lawler is scared to step into the FedEx Forum. He told him he needed to pack his things and move out of Memphis. Renee got into Hughes' face, so he pushed her down. Lawler/Hughes had a pull-a-part that came off real good.Lawler/Renee come out after the commerical. "I am not afraid of Hulk Hogan and I am damn sure not scared of you." to Hughes. Clip from last week of Assassins jumping Maclin and Koko making the save. Maclin did juice - not much, but bled from a loaded headbutt from one of the Assassins.]

LAST WEEK'S RATINGS
Hughes. The show opened up with "The Golden Boy" Greg Anthony coming out. He told the fans that there was a rumor going around about Grandmaster Sexay Brian Christopher being there tonight. He told the fans that he hoped he showed up, cause he had a big surprise for him. He then said there was no way Grandmaster Sexay would beat him at "Mayhem", cause he was the "best of the best".
Rockin' Randy beat Alec Fontez

Rhythm & Blues vs Posse- Referee threw out the match
The match was thrown out after both teams used the skateboard on each other. After the match Simon tried to shake Lil' Chris's hand but Lil' Chris just walked away, with a mad look on his face.
Up next was Derrick King's 30th Birthday Bash. Commish Hayes, Stan Lee, and Tim Cummings came out. They then called out Derrick King. He came out. The fans sang Happy Birthday to him. If they spent as much time trying to get over some of the young talent as they do their owner they would have more "stars" to promote. Hell, I would even be "sold" if they would have had Assassins vs Koko/Bobby Eaton with Corey Maclin as their manager...Corrente's hair was cut real close to his head. It didn't look bad from his "Beefcake" haircut...Another good show - not as good as last week - but good. They continue to build for Sam's Town with follow up to the angles from last week. Good final match.
LAST WEEK ON MEMPHIS WRESTLING
1 YEAR AGO ON MEMPHIS WRESTLING
----"Total Protection" Mr. Hughes. He talks about Jerry Lawler pulling a no show at the FedEx Forum. He said that Lawler was scared of Hulk Hogan. He says that Lawler let the people down. Hughes beat Sam Shaw in a squash.
----"New Nature Boy" Kevin White comes out for a short interview with "The Insane Clowns" [Bobo/Giggles] with Rashard. Clowns/White vs Jerry Lawler with Renee/Bill Dundee/Spellbinder. Rashard threw in a baseball bat, which Spell caught and used on Giggles as Lawler stuns Bobo. Lawler then pins Giggles. Not good - match was a clusterfuck.
----Lawler interview with Renee. Hughes walks out and says "I can't believe my eyes!!" Hughes says that Lawler was scared to step into the FedEx Forum. He told him he needed to pack his things and move out of Memphis. Renee got into Hughes' face, so he pushed her down. Lawler/Hughes had a pull-a-part that came off real good.
----Lawler/Renee come out after the commerical. "I am not afraid of Hulk Hogan and I am damn sure not scared of you." to Hughes.
----Clip from last week of Assassins jumping Maclin and Koko making the save. Maclin did juice - not much, but bled from a loaded headbutt from one of the Assassins. Interview filmed from Corey Maclin's house with Corey's dad - Jerry Maclin and Koko Ware. Koko was in "Birdman" gimmick. Koko says that he talked with Jerry Maclin at the FedEx Forum and he helped clear up their problems. It was not as good as it could have been. Koko was singing. It would have been better if Koko would have been more serious about the situation. Jimmy Hart will be in Koko/Maclin's corner. Hart interview with Hulk Hogan jacket hanging up behind him. Hart talks about FedEx Forum with Sal getting his hair cut. He also talked to the jacket. LOL It was a real good interview from Hart. This segment lasted 12 minutes!!
----“Big Cheese” Sal Corrente with The Assassins come out. Sal is good on the mic. Assassin #1 [Billy Ray Hickerson] talks and is good also. Assassins squash Mike Black/K Hill.
----"Too Cool 2" [Tim Grind/Flex] come out to a big babyface pop, but they are heels. Tatt2/Johnny Dotson beat by DQ Flex/Grind. TC2 gave them good shine. Heat on Tatt2. This was a real good bout. One of the best TV bouts of the year. Finish had Dotson hit Grind with a frogsplash [Maclin called it a "leapfrog"..no, I am not kidding]. Flex then hit Dotson with a notebook binder for the DQ.

----Arnez with Karly beat Shakedown with Sam Dollar…Cody Daniels beat Bryan Knight…Idol Bane beat Adrian Stratton Banks…ACW Title Match: Loose Cannon beat by DQ over Deadly Dale…ACW Tag Team Title Match – Tag Team Turmoil – Idol Bane/Cody Daniels beat Midnight Cowboy/Bryan Knight & Hambone Express with Sam Dollar to become the new tag team champions.
----There were only 20 people in attendance with a gate close to $140. Canceling the show last week really hurt them…Arnez is carrying a doll around just like Psycho. He was calling it Kayte [just like Psycho], but since they are tagging again the doll’s name is Karly…No shows were Hamhock [attending a graduation], SF Treat [visiting friends] and The Enforcer [bad knees – probably on the shelf for a while]…They have a new ring and new sound system, so don’t look for them to cancel any upcoming shows…Loose Caboose is next week, which a yearly festival event in Paragould, AR and will feature ACW wrestling. Along with their regular roster, they have added Kilo, Psycho, Tank and Southside Brawler. This group is going to draw big for this with tons of advertisement going out with three radio stations and a flyer for the event.

Kilo held Rocker for Steele to punch him, Rocker ducked and powdered. Allen Steele & Kilo had a shoving contest, with Kilo and Gaylon attacking Steele. Steele came back and left both of them in the ring. So Steele turns again?? He has been back and forth all year long…I was told the last two matches were good especially the Rocker vs Steele bout. What did you expect?? It featured two of the top 10 RRO workers of 2006. LOL
